Investment Banking Summer Associate — Fireclay Partners (Summer 2027 | Full-Time Internship | In-Person, Kansas City)

    About Fireclay

Fireclay Partners is a Kansas City–based strategic advisory firm focused on M&A and capital advisory across multiple industries, including industrials, energy and natural resources, financial and business services, technology, consumer, healthcare, and real estate.

    The Opportunity

Our summer associate internship gives MBA students hands-on exposure to investment banking and transaction execution. This is a full-time, in-person internship at our downtown Kansas City office during summer 2027. It is designed for students returning to their MBA program after the internship and able to begin full-time employment in summer 2028. Any subsequent full-time opportunity will depend on performance and business needs and is not guaranteed.

    Your Key Tasks Will Include

    • Support the preparation of pitch materials, confidential information memoranda, management presentations, buyer lists, and data rooms.

    • Build financial models and company valuations using comparable companies, precedent transactions, and discounted cash flow analysis.

    • Develop market and business analyses in the context of M&A transactions.

    • Research companies, industries, acquisition targets, and potential buyers; turn findings into concise recommendations.

    • Support diligence and transaction process tracking, with increasing ownership of defined workstreams.

    • Collaborate with senior bankers and help coordinate and review analyst and intern research.

You Should Possess the Following Qualifications and Skills

    • Current enrollment in an MBA program, normally graduating in 2028; December 2027 graduates may be considered if available for the summer 2027 internship and a summer 2028 full-time start.

    • Availability for full-time, in-person work in Kansas City during summer 2027.

    • Prior professional experience with substantive analytical responsibility in finance, consulting, corporate development, transaction advisory, accounting, or a related field; investment banking or M&A exposure is strongly preferred.

    • A demonstrated commitment to investment banking and a working foundation in accounting, valuation, and financial modeling.

    • Strong academic performance, advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, and clear written and verbal communication.

    • Close attention to detail, sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Working with AI at Fireclay

AI is part of how we work. We use approved AI tools to support research, organize and synthesize information, develop and refine written materials, assist with analysis, and improve repeatable tasks. Team members are expected to combine these capabilities with financial knowledge and professional judgment to produce accurate, useful work efficiently.

Strong practical proficiency with AI in a professional work environment is a requirement for this full-time role. You should be able to structure a task, provide appropriate context, refine prompts and outputs, and incorporate AI into a repeatable workflow that improves the quality and speed of your work. Familiarity with a chatbot alone is not sufficient. Be prepared to discuss concrete examples using public or non-confidential information.

You remain accountable for every deliverable. Verify facts, sources, calculations, and assumptions; recognize unsupported or misleading outputs; and know when independent analysis or human review is required. Use only firm-approved tools and follow confidentiality and data-handling requirements. Never enter client, deal, personal, or proprietary information into an AI system without authorization. AI proficiency complements sound accounting, valuation, writing, and analytical skills.

    Why Fireclay
