    Intervention Specialist

    SCAN Alcohol Intervention Services (SAIS) Program

    (Webb County)

    Seeking highly motivated and responsible individual that wants to provide evidence-based alcohol misuse intervention services to students attending TAMIU.

    Founded in 1982 in Laredo, Texas, SCAN is a leading provider of social services in South Texas. The SCAN Alcohol Intervention Services (SAIS) Program provides services to students attending TAMIU using the evidence-based BASICS approach.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Recruit, screen, and assess all participants to determine their needs and eligibility for services.
    • Provide intervention services to program participants in-person and/or virtually including an evidence-based alcohol intervention approach.
    • Conduct case management services by making regular contacts in-person, by phone, and/or virtually to monitor the progress of participants, make referrals for other services, and document all activities in participant charts.
    • Assist in conducting outreach to help inform students about program services including information dissemination and brief presentations.
    • Collect and report required participant data in an ongoing manner.
    • Complete detailed monthly service activity reports.

    Qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s degree in psychology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is required.
    • 6 months to 1 year of work experience providing substance abuse prevention/intervention services to adolescents or adults is preferred.
    • Very good English skills (speaking, reading, writing) are required.
    • Good bilingual (English and Spanish) skills are a plus, but not required.
    • A valid TX driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation are required.

    Work Schedule and Compensation:

    • The regular work schedule is 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, there will be occasional work that takes place on weekends and in the evenings.
    • Salary $18.25 per hour
