    Position Title: Intervention Teacher

    Reports To: Vice Principal

    Summary

    Ascension Lutheran School is seeking a compassionate and skilled Intervention Teacher to join our team and provide targeted academic support to students in need of additional instruction in reading and, eventually, mathematics. The ideal candidate is passionate about early intervention, aligned with the science of reading, and enthusiastic about collaborating with teachers and families to help every student thrive.

    This position supports our mission to educate the whole child in a Christ-centered environment by offering small-group instruction, differentiated curriculum, and evidence-based interventions to improve student achievement.

    The Intervention Teacher will Report to the Vice Principal.

    This is a part time exempt position with an anticipated 20-25 hours per week.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

    Student Support & Instruction

    · Provide small-group and one-on-one reading intervention focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics skills, comprehension, and fluency

    · Use school data and diagnostic assessments to identify students in need of intervention.

    · Support targeted instruction in foundational literacy and, eventually, mathematics as well.

    · Design and deliver differentiated lessons that address specific student needs.

    · Collaborate with classroom teachers to align support with grade-level instruction.

    · Track and monitor student progress, adjusting instruction accordingly.

    Communication & Collaboration

    · Communicate consistently and positively with students, families, and staff.

    · Attend and contribute to Student Support Team (SST) meetings.

    · Share data with academic leadership and teaching teams monthly.

    · Maintain accurate records of sessions, student progress, and parent communication.

    · Meet weekly with the Director of Student Support Programs to report progress and refine support plans.

    Instructional & Technological Excellence

    · Develop and use engaging instructional materials appropriate to students’ levels.

    · Maintain student tracking systems and intervention documentation.

    · Participate in professional development for intervention and literacy specialists.

    · Use educational technology tools (Google Workspace, assessment platforms, etc.) to enhance learning and data collection.

    Additional Duties

    · Assist with curriculum planning for intervention programming.

    · Support teachers with effective reading and math instructional practices.

    · Invite and follow up with students needing support during open periods.

    · Perform other duties as assigned in support of student success and schoolwide goals.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    · Valid California Teaching Credential with English Learner Authorization OR Reading/Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential (or equivalent)

    · Demonstrated experience with reading intervention and differentiation

    · Proficiency in using spreadsheets, Google Workspace, and instructional technology

    · Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities

    · A collaborative, flexible, and Christ-centered approach to teaching and learning

    Preferred:

    · Experience working in a Christian or private school setting

    · Experience supporting students with mild to moderate learning differences

    · Knowledge of or training in BPST, LEXIA, Barton, Saxon, Heggerty, Fountas and Pinnell or other structured literacy programs

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

    · Work may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking between classrooms, and light lifting (up to 50 lbs).

    · Regular use of computer, keyboard, and office equipment.

    · Must be able to move throughout campus and effectively engage with students.

    Terms of Employment

    · Must pass DOJ/FBI fingerprint background check.

    · Must provide proof of valid credential and all employment eligibility documentation.

    · Reports to the Director of Student Support Programs and the Vice Principal.

    Salary $24,000 to $25,000 annually
