    Job Description

    University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

    • University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
    • Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10–12-week period starting May or June 2022. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

    Primary Function of Position:

    The mission of Supplier Engineering is to bring top quality components to our production lines by building a world-class supplier network that can ensure continuity of supply, scale to support demand, YoY cost reductions and mitigate supply chain risks.

    This role will focus on Multi-port Stapling platform. The Supplier Engineer Intern will execute quality improvement, cost reduction and supply chain risk management projects on existing products and will also support new product launch. The Supplier Engineering Internship is an opportunity to develop skills in various manufacturing processes and witness these processes at work at our suppliers. Projects will be executed in multi-disciplinary teams that will involve design, quality, and manufacturing engineers.  

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    During the 10-12 weeks assignment the hired candidate will get a deeper understanding of the different lifecycles of a product and will have opportunities to collaborate with suppliers to develop manufacturing processes. The candidate will have the opportunity to support new product launches, product transfers and sustain existing products.  

    • New launches / product transfers:

      • Complete Production Part Qualification Process deliverables: Supplier pFMEA, Special Process Validations, FAI, and Process Capability Analysis

        • Perform product/process risk analysis and ensure mitigations are implemented and effective prior to product introduction
        • Establish sustainable process capability at supplier and critical sub-tier suppliers
      • Monitor supplier performance post-launch and drive improvements as needed to ensure a robust manufacturing process for production ramp-up

    • Sustaining products:

      • Support Intuitive manufacturing:

        • Quickly address potential line down incidents
        • Take ownership of dispositioning non-conforming material and address systemic or significant non-conformances with formal corrective actions
        • Drive corrective actions through use of various Root Cause tools (8D, 5 Why, etc.), determining true root cause, implementing effective and lasting corrective and preventive actions
      • Plan and execute changes at suppliers that pertain to quality, capacity, cost or supply continuity

        • Manage the planning and implementation of supplier change management projects using the Supplier Change Request process (SCR) post launch
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

    • Current enrollment in a Mechanical/Material Science or Plastic Engineering degree-seeking program at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level
    • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and communicate technical information
    • Analytical/Data-oriented candidate with a passion or strong interest in trouble shooting and root cause investigation and ability to document findings succinctly and accurately
    • Significant computer experience using Windows, Word, Excel. Experience using CAD software is preferred
    • Ability to build networks inside and outside the company
    • Ability to communicate (oral and written) to project key stakeholder effectively
