Position Summary
The Inventory / Purchaser – Fuel & Oil Products is responsible for managing fuel and lubricant inventory levels, procuring petroleum products, and ensuring uninterrupted supply to meet operational and customer demands. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of fuel supply logistics, and the ability to make cost-effective purchasing decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor daily inventory levels of fuel (diesel, gasoline, DEF) and oil/lubricants
- Coordinate fuel and oil replenishment to prevent shortages or overstocking
- Place and manage purchase orders for fuel, bulk oil, and related products
- Track market pricing trends and secure competitive fuel and oil pricing
- Maintain relationships with fuel terminals, suppliers, and oil vendors
- Schedule and coordinate fuel loads with dispatch and terminal operations
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements (EPA, DOT, etc.)
- Reconcile fuel deliveries, invoices, and inventory discrepancies
- Maintain accurate inventory and purchasing records in internal systems
- Collaborate with dispatch, maintenance, and operations teams to forecast demand
- Monitor product quality and ensure proper storage and handling of fuel and lubricants
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve procurement processes
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in supply chain, business, or related field preferred
- 2+ years of experience in fuel purchasing, petroleum supply, inventory control, or logistics
- Knowledge of fuel supply chain, terminals, and pricing structures preferred
- Experience with inventory management and purchasing systems
- Strong Excel and data tracking skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Combination of office and yard/terminal environment
- May require occasional travel to fuel terminals or vendor locations
- Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs as needed
- May require early morning, evening, or weekend coordination based on fuel supply needs
