    A full-time opportunity with a rich benefit offering, the position will be based in Mission Viejo, California, working alongside our accounting and corporate support teams Monday through Friday, typically 8am to 5pm. The Staff Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager at our corporate office.  THIS POSITION REQUIRES AT LEAST TWO YEARS OF ACCOUNTING EXPERIENCE, PREFERABLY IN THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT OR REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY.

     

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Supports and executes the Company’s accounting policies and procedures for multiple property management portfolios nationwide. 

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ·         Monitor daily general ledger cash balances and deposits

    ·         Audit general ledger accounts for discrepancies and problems

    ·         Prepare ACH and wire transfers

    ·         Reconcile security deposit reports

    ·         Reconcile multiple bank statements monthly for each property

    ·         Prepare and complete month-end and year-end closings

    ·         Generate adjusting journal entries with supporting backup

    ·         Prepare client financial statement packages

    ·         Process security deposit refund requests from property managers

    ·         Reconcile debt service statements including impounds for property tax/insurance

    ·         Effectively communicate in writing or verbally with corporate office and onsite property personnel

    ·         Set up and/or review amortization schedules for debt service

    ·         Support integration of new properties as needed

    ·         Assist with construction draws and CAM reconciliations as needed

     

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

    • Four-year degree at accredited institution, preferably in Accounting or commensurate experience

    • Requires at least two years of accounting experience, preferably in the property management or real estate industry

     

    ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Company, property, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards and immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, employee/visitor/resident injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to appropriate individual(s).

    • Identifies opportunities areas for improving the Company’s overall operation and success by offering suggestions, leading improvement initiatives, and working with the appropriate team members to implement suggestions.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Incumbents work in an office environment.  This is an in-person position that reports to a physical location. 

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Incumbents must be able to view computer screens and other electronic equipment for extended periods of time where visual strain may result.

    • Incumbents must be able to push, pull, lift, carry, or maneuver weights of up to ten (10) pounds independently and twenty-five (25) pounds with assistance.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively to comprehend and complete accounting procedures.
