    Job Description

The energy transition means, fundamentally, a push toward electrification using renewable energy. Renewable energy’s intermittent nature is tamed by energy storage, and not just any storage, but large-scale, long-duration and robust stationary energy storage. That’s where Invinity comes in. We make flow batteries that store energy in a liquid electrolyte containing vanadium. Invinity’s vanadium flow batteries are highly advanced versions of this proven technology.

Invinity is deploying large-scale projects in California and the western U.S. We need someone who will take point in working with our customer’s engineering teams and EPCs on the design and implementation of projects using Invinity’s flow batteries. You will work closely with our teams of mechanical, electrical and software engineers, based mainly in Vancouver, BC and just outside Edinburgh, Scotland, on all aspects of grid-connected energy storage systems.

Energy storage is the most interesting area in the entire energy infrastructure market today. Your work with us will help drive the energy transition.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    •   Provide direct technical interface with customers to ensure that system design requirements for the project are appropriate and feasible.
    • Set standards for, support the development of, and review the core system specification documents and drawings for each project.
    • Create and communicate to customer/partners a clear set of system definitions and design specifications for the successful deployment of vanadium flow batteries.
    • Influence and support the selection of critical equipment such as inverters and transformers, working with international suppliers of power electronics systems.
    • Ultimately, you will help build and provide technical leadership of a team of systems engineers.
    • The role will require travel in California and occasionally to Canada and the UK.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Proven power systems expertise with at least five years of hands-on engineering experience delivering large electromechanical systems in a relevant industry.
    • An undergraduate or master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
    • Solid practical experience in system engineering and the design and implementation of power generation, energy storage and/or electrical distribution systems.
    • Experience with grid-connected renewable generation system design, grid connections, inverters and transformers, cable sizing and site cable layouts.
    • Ability to embrace multiple perspectives and constructively challenge decisions when required. An inquisitive nature and an ability to influence others.
    • Comfortable identifying problems, root causes, risks and opportunities. Analytical and rational decision maker.
    • Strong organizational and planning skills with a sound understanding of the value strict processes bring.
    • Right to work in the U.S.

    DESIRABLE

    • Good understanding of control systems, PLC or industrial PC based.
    • Knowledge of CE and/or UL certification for energy generation and storage equipment.

    Additional Information

If the idea of building a world-class development team and helping the world transition to renewable energy is exciting to you. If being a part of a dynamic, global company where the team works with passion but not ego sounds appealing, Invinity may just be where you belong.
