    The Senior Program Manager will be responsible for providing technical assistance and training to public and private stakeholders working to end hunger in their community. The Senior Program Manager will help identify and share best practices in expanding access to the federal school breakfast program, develop tools and resources that help public and private partners meet their goals, foster cross-state learning, and communicate effective practices through conferences, webinars, and reports. Working in conjunction with the current Center for Best Practices (CBP) School Breakfast Program Managers, the Senior Program Manager will help develop and implement trainings for multiple audiences on expanding access to school breakfast and will help lead strategic direction of school breakfast work. The Senior Program Manager will also contribute to the CBP website, newsletter, and other communication tools.

    This role will preferably be based in Washington, DC, but with approval, MAY be based remotely from Texas or California.

     

    • Provide support, technical assistance and consulting to a portfolio of No Kid Hungry campaigns, grantees and other public and private partners working to end childhood hunger.
    • Build deep programmatic expertise in school breakfast and guide strategy towards increased access to school breakfast.
    • Develop products and tools that will help facilitate partners’ work and fill gaps in the field.
    • Communicate best practices and policies to a wide variety of audiences through resources and presentations.
    • Plan and facilitate conference calls, webinars and workshops for partners.
    • Plan and facilitate trainings and conferences for school nutrition professionals, advocates and others in the child nutrition field.
    • Represent Share Our Strength at conferences, briefings and coalition meetings.
    • Work cross-departmentally to provide information about school breakfast.
    • Responsible for keeping school breakfast content and resources on CBP website site current.
    • Work with state advocates and partners to develop implementation tools and provide technical assistance around new breakfast legislation and breakfast expansion efforts.
    • Participate in and provide meaningful support during the campaign quarterly review process and annual planning.
    • Stay current on the national school breakfast landscape through internal and external relationships.
    • Serve on organizational workgroups by providing the breakfast perspective to conversations, meetings and strategy sessions.
    • Responsible for special projects that may be cross-cutting with other federal nutrition programs, such as exploring the impact of hunger on rural child hunger or mixed-need schools.

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in public health, nutrition education, public policy or related field preferred.
    • 5-8 years’ work experience with a focus on child hunger and school nutrition.
    • Experience providing training, technical assistance, strategic planning or consulting services to nonprofit organizations and/or food and nutrition staff/schools.
    • Extensive knowledge of school breakfast program operations and policy.
    • Extensive knowledge of the K-12 education environment.
    • Experience in short and long-term project management. 
    • Ability to travel up to 35-40% of the time, including overnight and occasional weekend travel.
    • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills and ability to adapt technical language for lay audiences.
    • Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities while coordinating work flow in a deadline-driven and service-focused environment.
    • Must be proactive and a self-starter with excellent problem-solving and implementation skills.
    • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills: ability to maintain strong professional relationships with a range of groups in-person and by writing and phone, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
    • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
    • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
    • Demonstrated interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
