    SEAWARD SERVICES is currently seeking a Third Mate for our Norfolk TSVRON operation. The Third Mate will support the safe operation of their assigned vessel in a fashion that will promote and maintain the utmost integrity and the highest standard of customer service within the industry, while assisting with deck operations, Watch Standing, scheduling, training, daily tasks, and the safe navigation and mooring of the vessel.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Note that the below are normal for this position but are not all-inclusive--

    • Serve as navigation officer
    • Maintain charts and publications.
    • Prepare all voyage plans; make daily report to the Master on voyage progress.
    • Perform cleaning, painting, maintenance duties as directed by the chief mate.
    • Primary on board representative who shall have the authority of and responsibility for enforcing contractor work rules, advising the Government on matters relating to good order and conduct, and  matters requiring immediate attention by the contractor during underway and in port operations
    • Stand navigation watches as assigned per operational requirements.

      

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

    • SECRET Security clearance will be required.
    • US Coast Guard / STCW Requirements: OICNW; Able Seafarer-Deck; RFPNW;PSC; Medical care Provider; ADV FF; Basic Training; GMDSS Operator; ECDIS (Unlimited); Lifeboatman; Wiper; Stewards Department (FH).
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
    • Valid United States Passport
    • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
    • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
    • Pre-employment background check, alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, and post-accident testing.
    • Must pass a USCG required physical exam upon hire and annually
    • Maintain compliance with USCG licensing requirements including physical standards
    • Wear company uniform and required safety equipment
    • Withstand outside conditions subject to potential extreme heat and cold. Marine operations are subject to varied wake and motion.
    • Ability to carry materials weighing upwards of 75 pounds.
    • Ability to work on elevations including ladders, scaffolds, etc.
    • Observe for safety. Vision correctible to 20/40. Full color vision, no night blindness.
    • Full range of all limbs.
    • Ability to determine safe or unsafe conditions.
    • Process calculations occasionally.
