    Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers and Architects, is currently seeking a Traffic Engineer in Training for our Kansas City, MO office.  This person will work under the direction of a Senior Traffic Engineer as part of our national transportation planning and traffic engineering team, primarily serving state and local agency clients.  This position will assist with a variety of projects to gain experience and perform evaluations in traffic operations, travel demand modeling, traffic simulation, GIS data development and summarization, and report documentation. 

     

    JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

    • Develop technical traffic analysis for highways, streets, and multi-modal facilities utilizing multiple software and programs as necessary.
    • Develop travel demand forecasts for current and future conditions.
    • Perform technical traffic analysis to identify traffic operations and safety related deficiencies for all modes.
    • Identify mitigation alternatives to correct deficiencies for current and future traffic conditions.
    • Evaluate alternatives and document measures of effectiveness to recommend proposed improvements.
    • Produce traffic reports in multiple forms to document all analysis.
    • Maintenance of Traffic – development of alternatives and design/construction plans to maintain traffic during construction of transportation improvements.
    • Signing, pavement marking, and traffic signal design – prepare design/ construction documents for permanent signing, pavement marking, and traffic signal plans based on MUTCD guidance and standards.
    • Marketing and Business Development – Assist in the development of proposals to secure new business for traffic related work and as part of multi-discipline projects.

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    • BS in Civil Engineering or related field
    • 0-2 years of experience
    • Working knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD drafting programs preferred
    • Working knowledge of SYNCHRO traffic operations evaluation software preferred
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, primarily Word and Excel
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret Clearance
    • Experience in installation, repair, and operations of fire detection systems;

    OR

    • Completed a factory-approved training for fire detection systems, AND hold a manufacturer's certification;

    OR

    • Hold a valid NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technology, Fire Alarm Systems) certification.
    • Must have the physical ability to travel overseas
    • Must be able to pass a physical examination for duty
    • Must be able to work on ladders, access hard to reach areas, and be able to lift and carry materials and tools in excess of 25 lb.
    • Must be familiar with the requirements outlined by NICET, NFPA, OSHA, and any other applicable regulatory agencies.
    • Must be proficient in using a computer to send email, as well as use Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
