    Job Description

    Position: Scale Clerk (Part-Time)

    Location: Greater Houston Area

    Summary

    The position of Scale Clerk is a key position within the organization responsible for serving as the first point of contact for all customers visiting a commercial waste landfill. The role serves as a key liaison between the operations and public-facing customer service of the company. In this capacity, the Scale Clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service to the public, accounting for all incoming and outgoing loads, adhering to company and regulatory policies and procedures, and to be friendly, helpful and work well with the rest of the operations team. Please note that there are two PT positions available. M-W and TH-SAT hours are 7 - 5 pm).

     

    Job Responsibilities and Functions

    • Responsible for collecting fees and monitoring waste to assure compliance and with the facility regulations.
    • Responsible for performing the duties of landfill gate attendant ensuring the proper admittance of public and waste collection contractors.
    • Responsible for receiving and receipt fees, calculating fees and charges for customer in accordance with the established fee schedules based on the size and content of waste loads via ticketing
    • Responsible for maintaining detailed records of the type of waste entering the landfill by filing weight tickets for each load, recording and securing balances cash receipts and maintaining records of all incoming/outgoing loads that cross the scales and depositing associated revenue with the operations accounting team.
    • Responsible for observing waste in order to identify hazardous waste or other materials that are not permitted in landfill.
    • Responsible for monitoring customer activities to assure compliance with established rules and regulations.
    • Responsible for answering scale house telephone, responding to customer questions regarding prices, acceptable waste, hours of operations, and direction to the facility.
    • Responsible for directing drivers to the appropriate tipping areas, operating radio and two-way communication as needed to alert equipment operators.
    • Responsible for keeping scales clean of debris and maintaining a clean scale house.
    • Responsible for identifying areas of improvement and making suggestions for those improvements in regard to process, methodology, and personnel.
    • Responsible for performing related duties as business necessitates.

    Experience:

    • At least 1 year of experience in a customer service capacity.
    • Experience in customer service role with cash handling.

    Requirements:

    • Must possess reliable transportation for position.
    • Minimum: 1+ year of experience in customer service capacity.
    • Ability to communicate fluently in English (written and verbally). Strong proficiency with Spanish and English is highly preferred.
    • Strong basic math and cash handling experience is required.
    • Ability to perform job duties in a rapidly changing environment with competing priorities and sometimes under stress.
    • Must possess the minimal experience listed above and requirements outlined herein.

    Other Requirements:

    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background screening, which includes a drug test (position may be subject to ongoing drug testing as a term of continued employment)
    • Ability to legally work in the US

     

    Additional Information

    Work Environment

    This position operates largely in an office environment within a landfill. Exposure to dirt, mud, and the elements while receiving incoming loads can be expected. Occasional exposure to weather extremes and environmental conditions typical of solid waste landfill operations.
