POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental & Permitting Specialist provides support related to environmental and permitting activities for the organization’s early and advanced development stages of renewable energy projects including facilities currently in operation or under construction. This individual will assist in the coordination of consulting teams and internal resource teams to meet operational project deliverables.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS
Collaborate with the environmental affairs and permitting team to ensure timely permitting of development stage projects and permit compliance for construction and operational stage projects.
Maintain and generate relationships with key decision makers within the local, state, and federal agencies in order to foster productive and ethical relationships with all permitting authorities.
Manage due diligences on potential greenfield or acquisition opportunities from an environmental and permitting perspective.
Implement environmental study and permitting strategies for projects in conjunction with project developers, technical staff, consultants and management.
Identify and prepare schedules and budgets for environmental studies and permitting of projects.
Prepare or review permit applications to agencies, represent organization at hearing and proceedings, maintain all documentation for permitting processes.
Work collaboratively with construction and asset management and operations teams to ensure permit compliance of all projects.
Help develop and implement documentation plans regarding civil and environmental permit compliance for operating renewable energy facilities.
Remain in compliance with various industry standards and regulations.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum: 3 years of experience with permitting and environmental compliance for energy-related projects.
Experience in renewable projects is preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences or equivalent educational experience.
Advanced degrees preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
Ability to problem solve and negotiate with diverse stakeholders.
Understanding of state and federal permitting processes and regulatory requirements for development, construction, and operations of energy projects.
Experience with wildlife concerns relating to the operations of renewable energy projects such as wind power preferred.
Ability to communicate fluently in English (written and verbally).
Ability to perform job duties in a rapidly changing environment with competing priorities and sometimes under stress.
Must possess the minimal experience listed above and requirements outlined herein.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background screening, which includes a drug test (position is subject to ongoing drug testing as a term of continued employment)
Valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle report, and good driving habits
Ability to legally work in the US
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Environment
This position operates mainly in an office environment. This entails working inside in an office. From time to time, clients and events will require field visits where exposure to extreme weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, dust, electrical charges and other unforeseen exposures may be encountered.
Physical Demands
In the performance of the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and view a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time. While at work sites, the employee will be expected to walk and stand. Individual might be asked to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or crawl. Individual might be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. in the performance of this position.
Position Type & Working Hours
This is a full-time, project-based position. During a project (durations subject to vary) the hours and schedule will be set by Client company. Project timelines and schedules will be discussed at time of offer.
Travel
Overnight travel is not anticipated in the course of this position.
