Job Description
The Ironworker Employees Benefit Corporation is a Taft Hartley Trust Fund based in Pasadena, California, providing employee benefits to over 15,000 Active and 8,500 Retired Ironworkers and their families.
Professional Communications:
This position requires excellent communication skills. In this position you will work very closely with office staff, legal counsel, union local staff and our Ironworker membership. You will need to be able to communicate effectively and professionally in person, over the phone and by email.
Essential Functions:
- Assist members with information on retirement benefits, death benefits and be able to effectively communicate the rules and regulations of the Plan.
- Process both initial and post-retirement benefit applications
- Review (retirement / post-retirement / death) applications for completeness and contact participant, alternate payee and/or beneficiary as necessary
- Process and explain complex defined benefit plan calculations
- Draft written correspondence
- Process annual benefit adjustments
- Review and determine QDRO documents for community property interest and award
- Review and determine legal documents (POA, Trust Documents, subpoenas, etc.) and provide to legal counsel as necessary
- Interact with all levels of staff, management and plan professionals both verbally and in writing in a courteous, discreet and professional manner.
- Work independently, while also being a strong team-player with the ability to function in a multi-task environment in a professional and timely manner
- Travel during our Annual Open Enrollment and as needed throughout the year
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Knowledge of ERISA, IRS and DOL regulations
- Knowledge of Qualified Domestic Relations Orders and the Brown Formula
- Knowledge of benefit plan actuarial and legal terminology
- Knowledge of defined benefit and defined contribution plans
- Experience with summary plan documents, plan rules and regulations, qualified domestic relations orders and other vital records from different counties and states
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience interacting at all levels of staff, management and plan professionals
- Team Player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated track record of providing superior customer service and impeccable follow through
- Strong math ability
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required
- Active Notary Public Commission a plus, but not required
Salary and Benefits
Salary is competitive and will be based on the experience of the applicant. Salary range is from $53,031 to $76,895 and salary will be commensurate with experience. We offer and excellent compensation and benefit package, including medical, dental, vision and a company funded 401K Plan.
