Job Overview
The Irrigation Superintendent is a senior leadership position responsible for the strategic planning, comprehensive oversight, and successful execution of all irrigation-related operations across multiple residential and commercial projects. This role involves leading and developing a robust team of irrigation managers and technicians , setting high standards for quality and efficiency, and optimizing advanced irrigation solutions to meet complex client needs and rigorous sustainability goals. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical acumen, proven leadership capabilities, and a profound passion for establishing and maintaining highly efficient and effective irrigation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Irrigation Management: Drive the strategic planning, design, and implementation of complex irrigation systems, including advanced sprinkler systems, drip irrigation, smart irrigation technologies, and central control systems.
- Departmental Leadership & Development: Provide senior-level supervision, mentorship, and performance management for irrigation managers and their teams, fostering a culture of excellence, professional growth, and continuous improvement.
- Advanced Project Planning & Execution: Collaborate extensively with senior landscape designers, project managers, and clients to develop intricate irrigation plans. Ensure all systems are installed, integrated, and fully operational according to precise design specifications, budget, and timelines.
- System Optimization & Innovation: Continuously monitor, evaluate, and analyze the performance of all irrigation systems to identify areas for significant efficiency gains and effectiveness. Implement advanced improvements, troubleshoot complex issues, and integrate innovative technologies to enhance water conservation and overall system performance.
- Comprehensive Maintenance & Emergency Response: Oversee all routine, preventative, and emergency repairs of large-scale irrigation systems. Develop and manage protocols for troubleshooting and coordinating rapid, effective repairs to minimize downtime and disruption across all managed properties.
- High-Level Client & Stakeholder Relations: Cultivate strong relationships with key clients, property managers, and internal stakeholders to understand complex irrigation needs, provide expert recommendations, and address all concerns with professionalism and a focus on long-term satisfaction.
- Budget & Resource Management: Develop, manage, and forecast comprehensive budgets for the entire irrigation department and individual large-scale projects. This includes detailed cost estimating, meticulous expense tracking, resource allocation, and ensuring all projects are completed within financial parameters.
- Compliance, Safety & Best Practices: Ensure all irrigation operations strictly comply with local, state, and federal regulations, evolving industry standards, and stringent company policies. Champion and enforce best-in-class safety practices and procedures across all job sites.
- Training & Development: Oversee the creation and delivery of training programs for irrigation managers and technicians to enhance their skills, adopt new technologies, and ensure consistent application of best practices.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in irrigation system design, installation, and management, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory, managerial, or superintendent role overseeing multiple teams or large-scale projects.
- Skills: Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, organizational, and advanced communication (verbal and written) skills. High proficiency in irrigation system design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rain Bird, Hunter) and a deep understanding of advanced water conservation principles and hydraulics.
- Knowledge: Extensive and expert-level knowledge of diverse irrigation technologies, advanced techniques, and industry best practices. Thorough familiarity with local water regulations, permitting processes, and relevant industry standards.
- Education: Bachelor's degree, is preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Proven expertise with advanced irrigation system controllers, sensors, weather stations, and comprehensive water management software. Experience with data analysis for irrigation optimization.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks as needed.
