    POSITION TITLE: HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

    DEPARTMENT: HUMAN RESOURCES

    REPORTS TO: HUMAN RESOURCES SUPERVISOR

    POSITION TYPE: REGULAR FULL-TIME

     

    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties for an assigned employee population in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, onboarding, recruitment/employment, training and development, recordkeeping, and employment law compliance.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    1.       Administer various employee benefit programs, such as group insurances (medical, dental, life, disability) and 401(k) program according to government regulations and company policy.

    2.       Strive to ensure employee understanding of benefit programs by regularly generating communication and counseling employees/dependents as situations arise. Resolve employee complaints related to health and welfare plans and refer difficult or very complex complaints to manager as needed.

    3.       Respond to employee requests for FMLA leave and administer all FMLA-designated leave according to FMLA requirements, other applicable employment law, and company policy.

    4.       Process all Workers’ Compensation claims according to company procedure and carrier regulations. 

    5.       Participate in preparation and maintenance of employee files, ensuring accuracy, compliance with applicable legal requirements, and confidentially.

    6.       Participate in hiring process by coordinating job postings, reviewing resumes, and performing telephone interviews and reference checks.

    7.       Participate in processing new hires, ensuring all required documentation is received and pre-employment screening is completed prior to start date.  Work with hiring managers to coordinate new starts.

    8.       Participate in processing terminations, including counseling supervisors on involuntary terminations, documentation, offboarding, etc.

    9.       Conduct exit interviews with staff to determine if corrective action may retain valued staff.

    10.   Assist employees, supervisors and department heads to settle work-related conflicts through advice, recommendation, and mediation.

    11.   Participate in preparing government reports related to EEO compliance, OSHA compliance, and other HR functions.

    12.   Participate in administrative duties as needed (e.g. correspondence, record keeping, file maintenance, HRIS entry).

    13.   Participate in and assist Human Resources Manager to develop and administer other Human Resources programs as business needs demand.

    14.   Ensure adherence to all requirements for employment-related posters and notifications in assigned locations.

    15.   Process employment verifications and Reemployment Insurance verifications according to state regulations and company policy.

    16.   Administer Time & Attendance policies and review timecards for assigned employee population in preparation for weekly payroll processing.

    17.   Other human resources and administrative duties as assigned.

     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    1.       Ability to weigh multiple complex legal, procedural, financial, and other factors to effectively make decisions.

    2.       Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to effectively communicate with people in potentially stressful situations.

    3.       Bilingual ability in English and Spanish a plus.

    4.       Ability to execute sound and reasonable judgement.

    5.       Practical knowledge of the PPACA, ERISA, and other laws relating to benefits administration.

    6.       Computer literate with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and capacity to learn new software systems.

    7.       High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.

    8.       Strong organizational skills.

    9.       Ability to effectively manage multiple daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.        

    10.   Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

    11.   Customer service focus.

    12.   Ability to monitor own work to ensure quality.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    1.       Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resources management, business administration, psychology, or related field.

    2.       Two to four years experience working in a dedicated operational HR role in a mid- to large-sized company.

    3.       Two to four years experience administering employee benefit plans in the health and welfare areas, including experience administering 401 (k) retirement programs.

    4.       Prior experience working with HRIS, HRMS, and ATS software required.

    5.       Prior experience in ADP Workforce Now preferred.

    6.       PHR and/or SHRM-CP a plus.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    1.       This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. 

    2.       Travel required: some-day travel, limited overnight travel.
