    Job Description

    The AVP of Leadership Giving is a senior leadership position within the JDRF National Development organization that possesses the skills and experience to develop our most innovative and strategic donor engagements while also serving as a thought leader within our organization and team. Reporting directly to the VP of Leadership Giving and working closely with our Research, Mission, Marcom, Community Engagement, Fundraising Programs and Field teams, this individual will have overall responsibility for leading and supporting strategic, high value donor opportunities and leading and coaching a team of fundraising professionals to capture donor opportunity across a regional footprint.  They will innovate strategies that align with JDRF mission priorities to better position JDRF as a charity of choice among philanthropists. The AVP of Leadership Giving is a player/coach role that will have both direct reports and group revenue responsibility.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Partners cross-functionally with Research, Advocacy, Community Engagement, Marketing, Development, Fundraising Programs and Field Operations to help develop high-impact programs that drive revenue, strengthen JDRF’s relationship with the broader T1D community and elevate the JDRF brand and mission.
    • Serves as the Regional Leadership Giving lead in continuing to advance organizational engagement methodologies for Shared Value, Unique Value Proposition framing, and optimized CRM process and strategy for JDRF fundraising.
    • Runs and leads the Team and Donor meetings including assisting in the development of Summits, Cultivation events, Stewardship programs, and staff development.
    • Assists in the development of dissemination strategies for new engagements across the JDRF organization.
    • Works alongside the VP of Leadership Giving to manage donor pipelines and opportunities for organization wide for donor engagements.
    • Develops proposals and strategic plans for donors employing an understanding of research and giving opportunities and leveraging relationships and creative and innovative concepts and approaches.
    • Employs creative and innovation methods in vetting and bringing new Leadership Giving assets to donors that address both donor interest and JDRF mission needs. Must work in partnership with JDRF groups from Research, Global, Mission, Advocacy and Community Engagement.
    • Cultivates highly functioning teams.
    • Builds and executes optimized working structure/relationships among national and chapter staff for leadership giving growth and success.
    • Ensures deliverables are of the highest quality, impact and outcomes based to promote donor centricity and satisfaction for JDRF holistically.
    • Serves as a resource in coordinating Leadership Giving support for Chapter development staff in solution ideation, solution development, donor cultivation and stewardship.
    • Mentors and provides strategic insight and professional development to less experienced team members, both national and chapter development staff.
    • Provides intake and qualification of new donor opportunities and assign to national and chapter staff as appropriate
    • Leads qualification and cultivation meetings to assist with proposal and opportunity development, creation, and presentation to donors and prospects
    • Supports the development of strong proposals for team and individual account managers
    • Develops strong donor relationships across the T1D ecosystems.
    • Teams up with national and chapter staff to drive ongoing donor development activities.
    • Participates on donor/volunteer engagement committees as necessary to set donor expectations and leverage donor/volunteer talent and contributions.
    • Is a key participant in the donor cultivation and solicitation process with leadership giving team.
    • Leads the prospect strategy efforts regional portfolio development process and recommend appropriate donor strategies.
    • Owns the development of donor collateral including donor presentations, invitations, communication development and key strategic positions
    • Partners with others to develop thought leadership and content marketing for blogs, guides, webinars, and conferences
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 10+ years of donor development experience, with at least 5 years in a direct fundraising role and a clear record of achievement in a complex, mission-driven organization.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
    • Proven track record of supervising, coaching, developing, leading, inspiring, and motivating staff. Strong desire to build high-performing team and benchmark strategic communications function.
    • Ability to effectively manage donor engagements while recognizing and leveraging the expertise of the different resources and the importance of their contributions
    • Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex research about diabetes and Type 1 healthcare environment.
    • Proven track record working with and fundraising at the six and seven figure level.  Experience building cases and communicating donor-specific value propositions, establishing yourself as a trusted advisor.
    • Experience coordinating team members to develop scripts, discovery process, best practices, sharing expertise/training and guiding solution development
    • Highly efficient in time management and meeting deadlines under pressure without sacrificing quality.
    • Experience leading and delivering complex enterprise solutions and teams within highly matrixed organizations.
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to multi-task and inspire people at all levels of the organization; easy to work with and knows how to gain the confidence of others.
    • Sound professional judgement and interpersonal skills as well as strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
    • Superior active listening, observation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent business instincts.
    • Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.
    • Strong capability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements. Inspiring team player who can interface with all levels of staff and volunteers to develop, maintain and utilize relationships. Proven track record working with Executive Teams, including CEO, to support strategic business priorities.
    • Entrepreneurial spirit who thrives in a fast-paced organization.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong presentation delivery, ability to convey ideas, and provide effective instruction.
    • Proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM system and MS Suite.
    • Ability to travel is required (previously about 30% of the time).
