    Job Description

    This self-starting individual is responsible for driving fundraising success for JDRF’s Signature Events, including our three So Cal chapter galas as well as support of So Cal chapter events as needed.

    Through collaboration and coordination with chapter staff and volunteer partners, the Development Manager will champion a strategic approach to signature events program development including volunteer leader recruitment and engagement, audience development, corporate sponsorship and stewardship that will grow the program at all levels and ensure an extraordinary donor experience. 

    The right person in this position is an integral member of the team, driving new business development, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of fundraising, chapter operations, and community engagement.  This includes identifying and engaging new donors, managing, evaluating, and expanding cultivation opportunities, oversight of various event activities, outreach, and education support.  He or she organizes and executes select administrative components of chapter operations that support the donor giving cycle, from qualification to stewardship.

    The position is based in Orange County (Tustin, CA) or the Greater Los Angeles area. While staff are currently working in a hybrid format (~2 days/week at the office & 3 days from home), this could change in the future, based on safety conditions and job responsibilities/needs.

    Responsibilities: •    Collaborates with chapter staff as well as national/regional staff resources to ensure the Chapter’s revenue growth for the Signature Events, including support of the Orange County and San Diego galas and a primary focus on the Los Angeles gala when that event returns. •    Develop and execute long-range and short-range strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new donors.  Lead prospect research and develop engagement plans, activities, and correspondence to support interactions with prospects. •    Collaborate with other chapter SE staff on volunteer committee development, table host recruitment and retention strategies, audience development, budget, timeline, marketing/PR, logistics and best practice implementation. •    Manage all components of the silent and live auctions for the Los Angeles gala, including working with the committee to procure highly desirable auction items, to ensure robust & successful live and silent auctions and supporting the OC & SD gala auctions, as needed.   •    Identifies, builds, and stewards relationships with community, civic and corporate leaders as an integral part of volunteer and donor engagement. •    Assist with all chapter operations including administrative support and management of the CRM database including CRM updates, duplications, and reports. •    Manage Signature Event communications using Salesforce Marketing Cloud. •    Utilize and manage the SE-related posts for the Los Angeles community social media (IG, Facebook & Twitter) to increase visibility and promote gala-related programs and events. •    Ensures personal accountability for meeting deadlines and responding to volunteers and other department requests. •    Maintain accurate and complete financial records and help ensure that the logistics, budget and timelines are met. •    Assists with event planning and execution for components of other chapter initiatives, including One Walk, Ride, family engagement events and volunteer-led third-party activities as assigned. •    Supports other fundraising events, chapter activities and programs as assigned.  •    Maintains a good understanding of JDRF’s mission and research cure therapeutics.

    •    College and 3+ years of work experience including fundraising, event management or relevant business/volunteer experience. •    Strong CRM database knowledge, Salesforce preferred. •    Must be a self-starter, with the ability to collaborate as a team player. •    Strong verbal and written communication. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. •    Ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers. •    Excels in prospect research and thinking creatively to develop donor acquisition strategies. •    Experience in new business development and account management preferred. •    Ability to create and manage process that enhances efficiency of staff work while allowing for donor centricity. •    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint). •    Detail oriented. •    Familiarity with outreach activities preferred. •    Ability to travel within the chapter footprint. Occasional evening and weekend work as needed.
