    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The Carpentry Shop Manager is responsible for day-to-day production activities within the scenic carpentry shop and the management of inventory, equipment and facility use.  Provides production duties, work priorities, deadlines and manages installation schedules. This position must efficiently communicate with team members to convey any installation challenges or coordination items.  Responsible for ensuring all production is completed safely, efficiently, in a timely manner, and confirms the quality of the final product meets JK2 standards.

     

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ·         Reads blueprints, reviews/works shop drawings, and understands design drawings to fabricate custom millwork products.

    ·         Maintains paperwork as necessary for the production activities within the scenic carpentry shop.

    ·         Schedules daily staff duties and oversees the preparation and production of materials to meet daily/weekly deadlines; i.e., verifies that all material/product is available.

    ·         Oversees quality control process for all products produced.

    ·         Sets an example for shop staff concerning: following JK2 Core Values to include, work ethic, quality of work, attendance, positive attitude, and ability to get along with other employees

    ·         Takes responsibility for carpentry shop productivity for job completion within estimated hours; and ensures each employee performs at the level required for his or her position.

    ·         Warrants shop operates according to company requirements and promptly addresses any issues.

    ·         Interviews and hires new employees as required to meet the production demands.  

    ·         Works with HR to arrange for Temporary hires when required to meet the production schedule.

    ·         Conducts regular performance evaluations and prepares formal written evaluations. 

    ·         Recommends employees for promotion or demotion, based on their performance to the leadership team.  

    ·         Attend weekly production meeting and provide status information for each job in progress. 

    ·         Coordinates fabrication strategies, material and labor calculations with the Estimating.

    ·         Skilled craftsman who is familiar and can work with laminate, wood, and plastics to finish high and medium end custom cabinets.

    ·         Must be well versed in modern manufacturing & production techniques such as a CNC wood router, beam saw, edgebander, joiners, panel saw, joiners, and shapers.

    ·         Ensures and oversees that proper personal protection equipment is worn by installation crew at all times and that the job site work area is cleaned daily

    ·         Ensures and oversees that proper safety practices and procedures are used, including proper disposal of hazardous/toxic liquids or materials

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

    Supervised by Production Manager

     

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

    Supervises Carpentry Shop Staff and other hired help

     

    QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

     

    REQUIRED:

    EDUCATION:

    High school diploma or GED, supplemented by completion of a Union, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work.

     

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a carpenter in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations, rough and finished carpentry and cabinet making. 

     

    PHYSICAL ABILITY:

    Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, climbing (ladders and scaffolding), standing and walking for up to 4 hours.  Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.  Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely.

     

    OTHER SKILLS, ABILITY AND/OR KNOWLEDGE:

    ·         Interviewing and hiring as necessary.

    • Evaluates, coaches and/or disciplines staff as required.
    • Excellent communication skills

    ·         Must be able to administer directions and be able to analyze a project/product to determine if there are any flaws or quality issues

    ·         Must be able to think and problem solve in the field, to address minor installation issues and keep the project install team on-track

    ·         Clean driving record with a valid license.

    ·         Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug testing. 

    ·         Pass a criminal background check.

    • Serves as liaison between day production, installation and/or night loading.

    SPECIAL HOURS REQUIREMENTS:

    May need to work overtime, nights and weekends as required.  JK2 Management has the right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at its discretion.
