    STORYTELLER STRATEGIST CONSULTANCY 1099 POSITION WITH FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE

    RC is a women-led Creative Action Agency. We collaborate with activists, non-profits, foundations, businesses, and movements using the power of storytelling and art to mobilize, advocate, and shape new pathways for change. We engage in work throughout the U.S. as well as in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. More at www.resistancecommunications.com We are seeking a Storyteller Strategist to support Resistance Communications in elevating our work and the voices and visions of resistors of injustice. In this role, you will be part of a vibrant team, working to create communications and storytelling strategy, driving creative communications problem solving, and crafting content that supports a myriad of clientele to drive social change. We are looking for a dynamic person, driven by shared values, to join our team and bring social justice ideas, concepts, and solutions to life through dynamic and compelling human stories.  Proactive, strategic, creative, and a problem solver - the Storyteller will work the storytelling spectrum – from engaging clients through a process to find out what they need, to gathering stories, to packaging them for a variety of strategic purposes. 

    ABOUT THE POSITION:  IN YOUR ROLE, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS: 

    Content

    • Understanding of story fundamentals (effective character, trajectory, hook, authenticity/details, and calls-to-action)
    • A strong sense of newsworthiness/value-based content (what makes a story interesting from the audience's perspective)
    • Researching, editing, and writing - taking rough, and often technical content, to translate it into polished, professional stories.
    • Storyboarding experience; understanding the effectiveness and appropriateness of story assets (text, images, audio, video) and how to combine them
    • Manages content development process (stories & copy) for integrated digital fundraising and marketing campaigns and partners with other teams to package it for multiple channels.
    • Writes both short and long-form pieces for CMMB website, email, and social media for the purposes of elevating our profile, raising funds, and advancing our mission.
    • Translates complex issues into compelling and accessible content and key messages.

    Strategy

    • Deep understanding of organizational overall programing, fundraising, communications and advocacy objectives.
    • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to coordinate and oversee story collection, production, implementation, and distribution process.
    • Ability to incorporate and balance objectives of all departments to oversee production of strategic, compelling stories.
    • Experience in creating strategic communications plans (from research through measurement/evaluation), and in designing specific content strategies to meet organizational objectives
    • Experience crafting editorial calendars and in re-purposing stories across platforms.

    Technical 

    • Expertise with online platforms and best practices for digital content creation/engagement.
    • An understanding of web analytics and social media monitoring/measurement tools.
    • The Content Producer/Storyteller is familiar with digital media and best practices in web editing, e-newsletter services, and social media.

    Client Management

    • An excellent emotional intelligence and people skills. In this role, you'll be responsible for working with and influencing a variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to internal employees, external contractors, and clients. 
    • Ability to inform and teach clients in a consultant and coaching manner.
    • Support organizing and structuring the information and prioritize client needs.
    • Ability to assess client target audiences, as well as, corresponding collateral and best platforms to share client experiences. 
    • Understanding of the visual knowledge it takes to produce what the client needs and/or have the ability to create visuals, or familiarity with design software.

    Project Management

    • Have experience working at a high-growth organization. 
    • Throughout projects, you may be clearly communicating with clients regarding deliverables, deadlines, timelines, and budget impacts. 
    • As necessary, you will schedule meetings and send calendar invites.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • At least 3+ years in a relevant role; additional years of experience a plus. 
    • 5+ years of professional writing and editorial experience, preferably for an international nonprofit.
    • Have at least a master's degree, or equivalent relevant work experience.
    • Must hold anti-racist and feminist values, and be dedicated to leading and contributing to RC from an anti-oppression and equity lens.
    • Ability to solve problems quickly, effectively, and efficiently using critical thinking skills.
    • Track record of using purposeful storytelling to drive organizational impact and business results.
    • Experience translating technical source material into accessible compelling human stories for a general audience.
    • Diversified portfolio of writing samples required.
    • Excellent communication and people skills; business development experience preferred.
    • Ability to balance building authentic relationships with holding team members accountable. 
    • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
    • Familiarity with gender and racial justice, and/or other rights basses issues preferred 
    • Experience in communications, media, and/or marketing.
    • Demonstrated track record of writing and producing digital and print content for a range of target audiences.

    YOU'RE THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU: 

    • You understand story structure and strategy fundamentals. 
    • Have experience in creating strategic communications plans.
    • You can convey story strategy to clients, helping clients understand the structures for the purposes of planning.
    • You are willing to experiment with fresh approaches and language.
    • You are a strategic, creative, agile writer who can deliver character-driven, emotionally engaging content tailored for different target audiences and organizational goals.
    • You bring fresh eyes to every project and help to shape client's unique goals and audience opportunities; yet remain grounded in strategy.
    • You have great interviewing/communications skills, know how to ask effective questions, and develop a rapport with people.
    • You can work with internal and external client teams to facilitate conversations and creative problem solving through crafting narrative and/or communications strategies.
    • You are able to take client inputs, draw connections for clients, and make recommendations to support their needs. 
    • You have storyboarding experience and understand the effectiveness and appropriateness of story assets like text, images, audio, video, and how to combine them.
    • You take feedback constructively and can enjoy both a collaborative and independent process.
