    JACKSON MADISON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM has an immediate opening for a Music Teacher at the Elementary School Level. Candidates interested in this position require a certification from the State of Tennessee - Department of Education to be considered a qualified candidate. The position reports directly to its respective School Principal. Pay rate is based on a district scale, approved by the District School Board and is commensurate with relevant education, experience and certifications.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Substitute Teacher is responsible for educating each student under his or her care based on the work assigned by the teacher or school system for the assigned days. This will include participation in challenging students, parents, other teachers and school staff toward achieving the goals set forth by the Jackson Madison County School System curriculum for this role. Substitute teachers shall assume the same responsibilities and have the same authority as the regular teacher, including bus duty, playground supervision or other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / ENDORSEMENT:

    • Qualifications for substitute teachers shall be no less than a high school diploma or a GED.
    • All substitute teachers shall be required to attend an orientation session designed to provide instructions regarding reporting, pay schedules, and other pertinent information and to answer questions.
    • Prefer prior teaching experience in a public or private setting
    • Prefer state recognized teaching certification.
    • Prefer endorsement codes recognized by the TN Department of Education.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Conducting and maintaining a highly organized and professionally functioning classroom.
    • Facilitate learning in the subject area according to Jackson Madison County School curriculum, and TN State standards.
    • Maintains ongoing curriculum evaluation and development to meet the needs of students.
    • Collaborates with other faculty in delivery of appropriate instructional approaches.
    • Shows empathy and understanding of students.
    • Reviews student performance frequently, objectively and effectively communicates observations to students and parents.
    • Proactive resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents.
    • Facilitates parent/student/teacher conferences.
    • Encourages parents to be contributors to the classroom as volunteers.
    • Continues professional development.
    • Follows policies established by Jackson Madison County School Board, and Tennessee State Depart. of Education's school guidelines.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    EXPECTED EXPERIENCE, EXPERTISE AND ABILITY:

    • Demonstrated expertise in specialty field.
    • Demonstrated experience working with challenge groups in a student-centered environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery.
    • Demonstrated experience in effectively solving challenging problems through a positive, collaborative approach.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated initiative and skills in the following area: relationship and community building, communication, conflict resolution, creativity, problem solving, decision making and time management.

    All substitute teachers must complete and pass a criminal history record check, background check, physical, drug screen and TB skin test. On an annual basis, the director of schools, with input from the principals, shall determine which substitute teachers performed at an acceptable level. All substitutes shall be responsible for providing and maintaining a current address and phone number to the district.
