Lexicon Pharmaceuticals is currently recruiting for an experienced and highly motivated Director, Medicinal Chemistry to join our team. This role can be based remotely or in our Woodlands, Texas or Basking Ridge, New Jersey locations
The Director, Medicinal Chemistry will support our drug discovery projects across the Lexicon pipeline of potential targets. In addition, the role will partner with Lexicon’s computational biology capabilities to mine Lexicon’s database of 5000 gene KOs and associated phenotypic data to prioritize the next generation of drug discovery targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT WILL NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Leading Lexicon’s medicinal chemistry efforts on multiple projects across a range of therapeutic areas from hit ID through candidate selection.
- Partnering with senior leadership and our drug discovery project teams in driving our scientific strategy & decision making, targeting design and synthesis and lead project optimization.
- Developing creative and scientifically sound solutions to challenging program issues. Contributing as our medicinal chemist lead to scientific problem solving across our discovery portfolio.
- Providing oversight of external CRO partners to ensure high quality scientific results.
- Ensuring key program progression of compounds and data are being generated to drive decision making based on strong scientific judgement.
- Providing focused input across all phases of drug discovery and collaboration with other functions
- Partnering with computational biology to evaluate and prioritize targets from Lexicon’s 5000 gene KO database.

Required Experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Ph.D. in Synthetic and/or Medicinal Chemistry or related field is required.
- A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in Pharmaceutical and/or Biotech drug discovery with a track record of leading/contributing to key research projects.
- Proficient in database mining, graphing and interpretation of data.
- Proven track record of creative and scientifically sound contributions to drug design and making key scientific contributions as a project leader.
- Ability to make independent decisions and recommend solutions and implementation plans in assigned areas.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively across a matrix team.
