    Who we are:

    We are veterinary practice that specializes in calves and cattle. Our clients produce dairy & dairy cross feeder calves, dairy replacement heifers, and dairy & beef fat cattle. We focus on preventative medicine through design of vaccine protocols, diagnostic services, management consultation, contract research and development, as well as providing the supplies necessary for our clients to be successful and profitable. With this specialty comes the ability to perform contract research. The Contract research allows us to be on the forefront of cattle health technology. We provide other organizations animals, samples, and data to their specifications.

    Job Summary:

    We are looking for an individual to become a member of our team to aid in feeding and general husbandry, sample collection and data management. The ideal candidate understands the importance of adherence to protocols and SOPs, has a strong ability to work independently with little to no direction. This person must also to be able to collaborate as part of a team. Candidates will need to have a flexible schedule as duties will include working early mornings and/or late nights, weekends, evenings, holidays, and special situations (overnight shifts and travel) as required. Days off during the week will be provided when the weekend and holidays are worked, when possible.

    Duties / Responsibilities:

    Be at work on time on scheduled days ready to contribute.

    Adhere to Confidentiality Agreements

    Follow CalfCare Biosecurity Policies, Animal Welfare Policies, Safety Policies/Procedures, and other protocols as needed.

    Perform animal husbandry tasks as needed/directed, including feeding cattle and calves, administering feed supplements and medications, mixing milk replacer, assuring fresh water is available to all animals, maintaining animal bedding and housing, caring for sick animals and reporting problems to appropriate personnel.

    Gather animals, biological samples, and specimens (Swabs, bloods, tissues) as needed.

    Keep detailed records and adhere to proper formatting of documentation as directed.

    Build, set up, tear down, and repair new and existing pads, group pens, fences, hutches, and paneling as directed.

    Clean/sanitize barns, animal trailers/trucks, sampling equipment, hutches/panels, feeding equipment such as milk mixer, bottles and bottle nipples, feed and water buckets.

    Operate a skid loader to load/unload feedstuffs, move equipment, clean the barn yard, pile the barn bedding and prepare for the next group.

    Assist and organize sample collection and animal processing (weights, biological samples, data capture) – at CalfCare facilities and client barns for commercial projects - when necessary.

    Perform other duties as directed by the Director, Assistant Director, or other members of CalfCare management/ownership.

    Additional duties may include assisting the professional veterinary staff in client barns/facilities, shipping/receiving, product delivery to clients, general office clerical work.

    Skills:

    · Ability to multitask and work variable/extended hours.

    · Knowledge of animal husbandry and animal handling skills.

    · Skid loader operation preferred or willing to be trained on how to safely operate loader.

    · Self-motivated, and independent yet willing to work as a team.

    · Livestock Farm or Veterinary practice experience preferred.

    Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent (Required); Associate’s degree or higher (Preferred)

    Physical Requirements:

    · Must be able to stand and move for the majority of the shift.

    · Lift weights up to 50lbs on a regular basis. Periodically lift weights in excess of 50lbs, with assistance.
