Job Description
In this role, you will help maintain, enhance, troubleshoot, and modernize large-scale applications used in a government environment. The position requires deep Java and SQL experience, strong Linux skills, and the ability to lead technical analysis and coordinate development activities in a collaborative team setting.
You will contribute to application development and sustainment, database improvements, system performance, production support, technical documentation, and modernization initiatives. Your work will help support reliable, secure, and efficient public-sector services.
Core Responsibilities
The Software Developer 3 will oversee and contribute to the coding, testing, debugging, and deployment of applications based on technical and functional requirements. Responsibilities include preparing test data, developing flowcharts and technical diagrams, creating production-run instructions, and supporting end-user documentation.
You will lead research and analysis for proposed projects, application modifications, and system enhancements. The role includes evaluating database schemas, writing and executing SQL code, deploying packages and triggers, and revising programs to improve operating efficiency.
The successful candidate will diagnose application issues by analyzing logs, system messages, thread connectivity, memory utilization, disk input/output, and available disk space. You will also recommend and implement improvements to application and system performance.
Additional responsibilities include developing programming standards and procedures, creating specialized programs, maintaining backup and restoration processes, preparing technical analyses and verification procedures, coordinating programming projects, and assigning or tracking the work of other team members. You must maintain regular attendance and follow approved work hours and client policies.
Qualifications
Required Technical Experience
Candidates must meet or exceed the following minimum experience requirements:
The required background should include experience with application development and maintenance, software testing and debugging, SQL development, database objects, production support, system troubleshooting, performance analysis, technical documentation, and software or systems enhancement.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred:
Experience coordinating technical work, mentoring or directing other developers, preparing implementation documentation, and supporting business-continuity processes is also valuable.

This is an Austin-based position supporting the Texas Department of Public Safety.
