POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for designing and building tooling for casting, (masters, patterns and core boxes) conventionally and with CAD/CAM software as well as maintaining inventory of department consumable supplies and in-house pattern storage. Additionally, this position assists engineering in
problem areas of designing products and training apprentices.
Formal Education Job-Related Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent plus completion of an accredited five (5) year patternmaker and apprenticeship program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Ensure proper shrinkages and gating practices are adhered to on both a master and working pattern design applying knowledge of foundry practices.
- Maintain in-house pattern storage.
- Perform any machine work as needed.
- Instruct apprentices as required.
- Maintain work area, equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly condition.
- Follow safety rules.
- Identify and report problems or difficulties to group leader or department supervisor.
- Select proper mounting designs for various foundry requirements such as cope and drag and match plates.
- Create special tooling required to build pattern equipment.
- Design and build tooling for castings with CAD/CAM software.
- Program CNC machine to build patterns.
- Specify and order tooling and other departmental consumable supplies.
- Prepare PET's and descriptions of pattern equipment for Purchasing database.
- Create drawings and sketches using proper drafting techniques.
- Assist designers in design for manufacturing practices.
