    Job Responsibilities

    We are hiring graphic designers who have experience creating coffee table books. Cover design will be 4C process. Interior book design will encompass complex photographic layouts that align with the strategic vision and aesthetic for the specific project. Designers will be responsible for creating design samples, revising samples, flowing the interior and jacket, and preparing files for press.

    The ideal candidate:

    • Is an InDesign expert
    • Is a talented designer and a master of typography with experience working on coffee table book interiors. The ability to deliver aesthetically driven, market viable design is essential.
    • Has a solid understanding of color spaces, is well versed with appropriate use of art, and has the ability to interpret design concepts from editorial creative briefs
    • Is able to work at all levels, from inputting corrections to building well-structured InDesign files for their own original designs
    • Understands how their composition work impacts downstream processes, including ebook production and future print edition
    • Will work closely with Creative Director and Production Manager, but not with clients.
    • Understands book production and printing standards
    • Must be able to project manage books on deadlines

    Requirements:

    • 3+ years of layout experience in Adobe InDesign; expert in InDesign, proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator
    • 1 year or more of experience designing original coffee table book interiors with a complete understanding of master pages and style sheets
    • Solid understanding of book composition standards
    • Ability to read and implement proofreader's marks
    • Experience manipulating illustrations and photos in Photoshop
    • Experience creating and manipulating vector art in Illustrator
    • Must be organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented
    • Ideal candidate will be process driven and able to carry out job responsibilities with minimal guidance after training

    This will be a freelance contract position. Digital portfolio is mandatory. Pay structure is $1200-$1500 per book cover and $40-$80 per page for book interior design. This excludes change time incurred by customers, which is additional. Any photo/graphic creation or retouching is also additional
