    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Team Leader, under administrative direction and consistent with the Program philosophy, assesses, plans, implements and delivers nursing care for the program. He/she provides managerial support to the Program Director (or organization’s equivalent) by providing supervision and evaluation of any nursing personnel. He/she contributes to the program, nursing and the hospital through support of the nursing and program philosophy and objectives.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION:

    • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Licensed and currently registered as a professional in the state.

    REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

    • Current state registration as RN (or eligibility to do so).
    • Basic life support preferred.
    • CPI or equivalent

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Assists the divisional director in development, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing service programs that ensure quality nursing, and patient care programs, consistent with the hospital mission.
    • Monitors/maintains unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policy for patient services and environmental and personnel safety.
    • Oversees unit CQI program, which monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.
    • Maintains current license and knowledge of nursing care requirements for all patients on the unit. Assesses the need for personal growth and development and takes the initiative in seeking opportunities to meet this need.
    • Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow‑through and communication. 
    • Fosters a service, which is consistent with the patient care beliefs and shared management philosophy of the department. 
    • Consults with patients/families through primary nurse request, direct family request or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization. Assesses patient/significant other survey responses regarding nursing care and services.
    • Responsible for ongoing development of staff and unit-specific patient care programs.
    • Responsible for effective communication horizontally and vertically within the organization.
    • Responsible for effective and efficient fiscal management of department operations to ensure proper utilization of organizational and financial resources.
    • Is responsible for the department’s operational excellence; ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
    • Manages human resources (HR) to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
    • Is responsible for the fiscal management of department and ensures proper utilization of the organization’s financial resources.
    • Effectively communicates departmental, organizational, and industrial information to staff.
    • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
    • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
    • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
    • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
    • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmental to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

     

     

    Required Skills

    • Demonstrated clinical competence in medical and psychiatric nursing practice.
    • Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency. Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills and abilities to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, confront/resolve issues, motivate others, ability to plan, and organize and direct the activities of others.

     

    Required Experience

    • Prefer five years clinical experience. Two years psychiatric nursing experience minimum, this may be increased per state standards: six months supervisory experience in a psychiatric setting preferred. Demonstrated leadership abilities: able to work under stressful conditions: and possesses good verbal and written communication skills.
