Director of Speech Language Pathology-Full Time
JOB SUMMARY
Coordinates and supervises all operational and clinical aspects of the speech pathology program. Participates in the development of departmental programs, policy systems, and procedures, and is responsible for their effective implementation. Applies and is guided by overall hospital and departmental philosophy, goals, and objectives, as well as administrative and medical policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitors flow and quality of work for overall speech pathology services to ensure timely completion of workload and
adherence to department standards and regulations.
Recommends, develops, and implements new and modified speech pathology programs and service policies and/or
procedures.
Performs voice recordings of post- and pre-operative patient cases and evaluates voice problems. Provides
rehabilitation therapy as necessary for patients referred by clinics of the otolaryngology department.
Performs rehabilitation therapy for laryngectomized patients.
Conducts speech, language, and voice evaluation and therapy for pediatric patients referred by the otolaryngology
department and private physicians.
Prepares staff work schedules and provides for patient scheduling to ensure prompt, courteous, and quality service
delivery.
Orients new staff members; participates in planning and conducts ongoing in-service educational programs.
Supervises personnel activities within the framework of hospital policies and objectives, including recommendations
for employment, performance evaluation, and review and disposition of employee grievances; ensures the
maintenance of proper work standards for the department.
Resolves difficulties between patients and staff as necessary and communicates hospital and departmental policies
and procedures, as well as pertinent provisions of the collective bargaining agreement to subordinate staff.
Keeps abreast of developments in the field of speech pathology through appropriate professional membership(s) and
continuing education activities.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with management and staff of other departments.
Attends intradepartmental and interdepartmental management meetings as required.
Prepares purchase requests for department supplies and equipment, and ensures that speech pathology equipment
is properly maintained and fully operational.
May participate in conferences and orientation of otology residents to department procedures by providing training in
speech pathology services.
Performs related duties as delegated, assigned, and required.
Required Skills
Minimum education
Master's degree in speech/language pathology.
Required Licenses
[Kentucky, United States] Speech-language Pathologist
Current Licensure as Speech Language Pathologist in the state of Kentucky.
Required Experience
Minimum Work Experience
Three years of progressive experience as a speech pathologist, including demonstrated expertise in the
administration of speech pathology services.
One or two years of supervisory responsibility preferred.
Minimum education
Master's degree in speech/language pathology.
