JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the program director and nurse manager, evaluates, plans, and administers medically prescribed recreational therapy treatment to patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs a comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessment, as evidenced by clinical documentation.
- Develops a plan of care to promote optimum function and safety, as documented in the clinical record.
- Plans for and provides recreational therapy treatment on the unit, reassessing the patients’ status during their stay and ensuring quality of care as documented in the clinical records.
- Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal patient care and communication, as noted in the clinical record.
- Completes all required paperwork and procedures to ensure that documentation reflects care provided and outcomes achieved, as evidenced in clinical records.
- Maintains and enhances personal knowledge, as well as promoting professional standards in occupational therapy.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
- Follows the hospitals exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intra- departmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Required Skills
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical or Recreational Education.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- CPI certification (or equivalent).
- BLS Certification - American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider) required, must be current.
