    The Sr. Communications Associate will work closely with the Communications Director to aid in the telling of JFSLA’s story through content creation, digital communication, public relations, and marketing outreach.   As our Sr. Communications Associate, you will develop content for the Agency’s multiple communications vehicles, with strong emphasis on delivering on a social media strategy as well as growing and maintaining social media presence.  The goals of the story telling will be to inspire donors and volunteers to deepen their investment; encourage prospective supporters to get involved; educate elected officials; and forge more meaningful connections with members of the press and the general public. Thus, the Agency’s communications program must address the varied needs of these audiences in the most accessible and universal ways possible. The Sr. Communications Associate should be innovative, organized and self-motivated with a keen interest in driving strategic messages to key internal and external players.

     

    Qualifications:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Public Relations, or another relevant area of study
    • 3 + years of demonstrated experience in non-profit marketing, communications, PR, or a related field
    • Preferred experience with PR and media relations, with established connections to LA-area journalists
    • Proficiency with social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter; and familiarity with social media tracking and scheduling platforms such as Hootsuite and Sprout Social
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to produce timely and impactful content for publications and deliverables
    • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter; process-driven with the ability to multi-task
    • Strong computer and technology skills
    • Strategic and creative mindset along with a strong positive and collaborative attitude 
    • Experience using InDesign, MS Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop etc. would be a plus
    • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment

     

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

     

    • Collaborate with Director of Communications to support communications initiatives, secure client stories, promote impact, ensure consistent branding and voice, and create high-quality, compelling content for a variety of channels including website, social media, annual report, presentations, videos and other publications
    • Assist Director of Communications manage collateral development and production for communications, events, and development campaigns and deliverables
    • Under supervision of the Director of Communications, develop a strategic plan to grow agency social media efforts, and develop social media content, to highlight programs, events, and fundraising efforts
    • Under supervision of the Director of Communications, develop a strategic plan to improve PR and media efforts across the agency
    • When asked, take the lead on communications and marketing projects and campaigns, including writing of fundraising appeals, annual reports, and more
    • Help to develop, write, and edit relevant content for all traditional and digital outlets
    • Maintain and grow JFS social media presence by developing a robust editorial calendar and research content and stories; Ensure all social media activity and engagement is executed effectively across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other platforms as necessary
    • Set goals for performance of digital platforms/channels (website, social media, email, SEO, etc.). Use analytics tools to monitor, track and analyze performance; evaluate and make recommendations to optimize performance.
    • Draft and build e-newsletters to ensure timely communications about our services, events, advocacy messages and calls to actions, fundraising appeals, current Clinic news, and more.
    • Proactively pitch stories to media outlets to publish timely agency news and information, and producing press releases, media advisories and feature articles for top placement. 
    • Overseeing and drafting mass email campaigns and PR pieces
    • Work with internal and external resources to facilitate development of communication mediums as well as to plan, craft and execute internal and external communication efforts.
    • Work with Director of Communications to expand and improve communications and marketing strategy
    • Regularly meet with internal clients to understand communication needs, develop solutions and provide feedback
    • Take ownership responsibility for initializing, developing, executing and measuring all assigned tasks
    • Actively solicit involvement of key stakeholders in the development of projects
    • Practice professionalism and accountability as it relates to all assigned duties
    • Utilize continuous improvement methods to explore new ideas and methods
    • Define the measurement process and build in metrics to facilitate on-going review and measurement of the effectiveness of efforts 
    • Audit performance and recommend change on a regular basis
    • Track and report result in established standard reporting format 
    • Provide back up support to other team members as needed
    • Other duties as assigned
