    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Electrical Estimator will develop estimates for proposals, maintain an electrical installation database, prepare and issue bid packages, and provide support to the proposal team.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Prepare construction estimates from design documents (conceptual design, preliminary design, and detailed design).
    • Review all project plans, specifications, and documents.
    • Determine basic material requirements from electrical technical specifications.
    • Collaborate with the design team to understand intent and obtain any additional information required to develop the estimate for its intended purpose.
    • Organize work to fulfil the specific Work Breakdown Structure required for the estimate.
    • Compose Basis of Estimate Documents.
    • Assess and account for project risks.
    • Review the completed draft estimate to remove any errors, duplications, or inconsistencies.
    • Prepare value engineering analysis in anticipation of the customer’s best interest.
    • Mentor other estimators on methods of electrical cost estimating.
    • Maintain and update database information related to construction costs for labor, equipment and materials for electrical systems.
    • Maintain estimating software (Accubid) material and labor.
    • Attend pre-bid or team scope review meetings and understand the complete scope of work required, with sometimes-limited information.
    • Locate, notify and send bid information to subcontractors and vendors for quotations on outsourced work.
    • Evaluate bids of subcontractors and vendors for completeness of scope of work, schedule, compliance with specifications, or other bid requirements.
    • Compile and finalize the estimate within time deadline and participate in team reviews with management on bid day.
    • Travel domestically and internationally 10-50% per year and up to four (4) weeks duration.
    • Safely commute between St. Louis, MO Headquarters and our manufacturing facility in Red Bud, IL.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
    • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

     

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. on a regular basis is required.

     

    KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience is required.
    • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in electrical cost estimating.
    • Knowledge of estimating practices and procedures including design drawing reading and analysis, software input and data manipulation, takeoff techniques, and electrical systems and their components.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    • Proficient in creating working drawings, design development, design build and conceptual estimate’s for consumer and heavy industrial projects.
    • Thorough knowledge of estimating both Design-Build and plan spec projects.
    • Thorough knowledge of NEC requirements.
    • Thorough understanding of labor risk factors including but not limited to location, weather, labor availability, installation difficulty, and scheduling.
    • Experience with estimating software (Accubid & LiveCount Takeoff preferred) including the use of custom designations, bid summaries, item substitutions, special reporting, and job exporting.
    • Understand project logistics and project schedules.
    • Ability to design basic systems with rudimentary information.
    • Able to organize, plan and manage multiple activities to accomplish desired results.
    • Ability to work independently without supervision as well as part of a team.
    • Able to work effectively and make decisions under tight deadlines.
    • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
    • Exceptional attention to detail.
    • Excellent organization and planning skills.
    • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
    • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
    • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
