Job Corps is a government-funded, no cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps socioeconomically disadvantaged youth between the ages of 16-24 improve the quality of their lives through academic and career technical training.  Job Corps' mission is to attract eligible young people, teach them the skills they need to become employable and independent, and place them in meaningful jobs or further education.

JOB SUMMARY

Reports to the Career Preparation Manager. Performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting curriculum with a focus on construction, HVAC and electrical occupations.  

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Demonstrates and abides by ODLE Core Values and operating principles.
2. Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to ensure maximum student motivation.
3. Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting in order to ensure maximum learning.
4. Establishes a high degree of Student/Instructor rapport.
5. Utilizes all possible curriculum resources available.
6. Responsible for adequate classroom preparation.
7. Maintains student personnel folders.
8. Assists in the completion of all necessary Job Corps forms.
9. Responsible for equipment and supplies and ensuring that security measures are taken.
10. Accountable for the neatness and cleanliness of classrooms.
11. Prepares reports such as student/staff hours, requisitions and monthly student evaluations.
12. Assists Supervisor during scheduled inventory.
13. Attends required staff training sessions.
14. Adheres to all aspects of ODLE’s Quality Assurance Plan, including utilizing the CIS Attendance Watch report.
15. Clearly communicate and consistently model appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency.
16. Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property, adhere to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
17. Cultivates and maintains a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
18. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Must have bachelor’s degree and valid PA teaching certification.
• 2 Years instructional experience in secondary education. 
• At least 1 year teaching experience with disadvantaged/at-risk youth. 
• Teaching background in Social Sciences, English or Psychology preferred.  
• Familiarity with distance/online and individualized learning.
• Understanding of career technical education terminology, specifically in the Culinary and Security fields 
• Valid State driver’s license in the state of employment with acceptable driving record.
