The registered nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, educating patients and their families, and managing transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across different settings and throughout the patient's healthcare journey. They follow the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which involves planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The RN demonstrates leadership through mentoring, teaching, and participating in quality improvement efforts. They may also serve on committees or projects. Some employees may be required to use their personal vehicle for work responsibilities.

For new graduate nurses: All newly graduated Registered Nurses with less than 12 months of experience are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program. There is no separate application or enrollment process. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic, regardless of experience, will receive an extensive orientation program.

This role provides sponsorship for TN visas. Individuals with F1 status eligible for post-completion OPT are welcome to apply. However, this role is not eligible for the F-1 STEM OPT extension program. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Qualifications

Graduate of a nursing program.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses hired after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses hired before April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing as required at the time of hire.

One year of RN experience in a relevant care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills are required, and prior experience with electronic medical record systems is preferred. Ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and excellent critical thinking skills.

License or Certification: Current RN license as per state requirements. Basic Life Support (BLS) competency is maintained in Arizona and Florida. Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers is maintained in the Midwest, as per American Heart Association or American Red Cross programs. Positions off-campus may not require current Basic Life Support (BLS) competency, depending on the work area. Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training may be required for specific work areas.
