About the Position The Patient Care Specialist (PCS) role involves providing direct and indirect care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The PCS works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, RNs, LPNs, and medical assistants to meet the needs of the patient and their family. Direct care responsibilities include providing care, collecting and documenting patient data, and effectively communicating information to patients, families, and the care team. In addition, the PCS supports the unit by assisting with maintaining the care environment and performing clerical duties. This role requires strong organizational skills, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous learning, quality, and excellence. Proficiency in using multiple computer applications is necessary. The PCS will work with patients of all ages and various medical conditions. Qualifications - Must be 18 years or older. - Able to read and communicate effectively in English. - Basic computer skills and familiarity with other technological devices (e.g., cell phone, laptop). - Willingness to work irregular hours, including days, evenings, holidays, and weekends. - Self-motivated and independent. - Open and willing to work with diverse populations. - High school graduate or equivalent preferred. - Working knowledge of computers and software applications required. - Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations. - Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, employees, and the public. - Must be organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and efficient. - Preferred experience as a PCS, HUC, MA, NS, or Ward Clerk, and familiarity with medical terminology. - Must possess current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. If not currently certified, the necessary education and testing will be provided as part of the orientation and training program.
