    Exciting New Road Tech Program!

    Position Summary:

    Penske Mobile Technician II will assist in repairing and diagnosing major components or removing/replacing major components under the guidance of the PFM Asset Supervisor. The expectation is to perform preventive maintenance (PM) services and to diagnose and repair the following with minimal supervision: clutches, PTO systems, electric systems, hydraulic/air brake systems, heating/air conditioning systems, and instruments and gauges.

    **Please note that this position is managed by our corporate team, and the Mobile Tech II will not work on equipment in a Penske facility.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrate proficiency in repairing and diagnosing: engines (gas and diesel); powertrain including differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, PTO's, and wheel ends; electrical systems including starters and alternators; HVAC systems; steering systems; electronics including ECM's, ECU's, sensors, etc.; engine bolt-on items such as turbos, fan clutches, injectors, cooling system, etc.; brake systems including ABS; and suspension systems (spring and air).
    • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for "trade-ins" and prepare new equipment for delivery.
    • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
    • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.
    • Perform duties with minimal supervision in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Identify warrantable repairs and document them on the repair order.
    • Maintain the appearance, safety, and environmental compliance of the on-site work area.
    • Comply with all Penske and customer work requirements.
    • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper functionality.
    • Use hand tools and power tools to perform tasks such as screwdriving, wrenching, pressure gauging, welding, and lifting with hoists.
    • Inspect important parts such as brake systems, steering mechanisms, and wheel bearings to ensure proper functioning.
    • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and equipment lubrication.
    • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
    • Inspect, test, and diagnose malfunctions in equipment using handheld computers, motor analyzers, and other tools.
    • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and safety devices as specified.
    • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure they meet factory specifications.
    • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, including replacing complete assemblies and other components.
    • Order, receive, and charge out parts. Maintain control of parts inventory through cycle counts and proper inventory management.
    • Serve as the primary customer contact for day-to-day needs and escalate issues as required to sales/operations management.
    • Manage tires and wheels through inspections and inventory management.
    • Follow Penske safety practices at all times.
    • Perform other projects and tasks assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications:

    • 2-4 years of practical experience in tractor trailer maintenance required.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Vocational/technical training or certification preferred.
    • Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components preferred.
    • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required.
    • Current CDL license with air brake certification required, or willingness to acquire one.
    • DOT medical card and/or ability to obtain DOT medical card prior to starting work.
    • Ability to read a map.
    • Ability to operate a 26,000 non-articulated vehicle safely and professionally.
    • Ability to utilize mapping tools such as Waze.
    • Self-starter who can work with minimal direct oversight.
    • Basic computer skills required for data entry into maintenance systems.
    • Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions required.
    • Must be able to understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management.
    • Must be able to perform all work adhering to DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies.
    • Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential.
    • Willingness to travel as necessary and work the required schedule, at the specified location, and complete the Penske employment application and background investigation and drug screening.

    • The associate must have clear vision and hearing to navigate the work environment safely, given the movement of large trucks.
    • The associate must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally lift and move up to 100 lbs/45 kg.
