Job Summary:
Serves as a helpful resource for all nursing activities in the department. When in charge, oversees and authorizes additional work hours when needed. Provides assistance and support to co-workers, new staff, temporary staff, and students.
- Delegates and assigns tasks to licensed and unlicensed healthcare workers within the scope of their job responsibilities.
- Coaches and supports nursing staff, helping them apply advanced clinical skills and critical thinking to enhance patient care activities.
- Evaluates and promotes patient flow, coordinates discharge planning, and participates in team rounding as needed.
- Takes responsibility for mentoring, coaching, and staff development, acting as a catalyst for change. Contributes to performance evaluations.
- Leads department improvement activities that focus on clinical quality education, leadership, and patient outcomes, among other related activities.
- Participates in the completion of required skill and competency assessments.
- Assists with strategic planning and activities related to recruitment and retention of nursing staff.
- Performs various nursing procedures such as skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy, and initiation of peripheral venous access.
- Evaluates and improves the process of patient care delivery within the unit and service centers.
- Provides advanced assessment skills, taking into account various factors such as cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family, and condition needs.
- Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns specific to different age groups and developmental considerations. Implements interventions to ensure a safe environment and evaluates their effectiveness.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Licenses:
- RN State License (California State RN License)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Specialty Nursing Certification
Experience:
Minimum of one year as a CN III at CSMC, or at least five years of experience in the specialty for new hires.
