Job Responsibilities - Perform advanced or moderately complex pre-analytic specimen receiving and processing with proper safety procedures in an accurate and ethical manner. - Assist in blood issuing and distribution process. - Conduct moderate complexity testing and pre-analytical work in specialized laboratory areas, ensuring sterile technique and safety procedures. - Receive, verify, process, and store specimens, and prepare specimens for send-out to referral labs. - Prepare and package mail out kits and maintain positive patient identification throughout the process. - Document send-out lab requisitions and billing, assist in developing standard operating procedures, and train new team members. - Assist consultants with specimen collection and research, triage specimens based on complexity and patient history. - Prepare reagents and maintain work unit supply inventory levels. - Perform order entry and troubleshooting in the laboratory computer system and electronic health record. - Retrieve and verify patient identification on specimens and resolve pre-analytic specimen-related issues. - Respond to phone calls seeking laboratory testing/order information or add-ons. - Accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments. - Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications - High School diploma or equivalent required (G.E.D.). - Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in specimen processing and handling, accessioning, clinical lab, lab testing, or related field. - Associate's degree in a health or science-related field preferred, with 2 years of clinical laboratory experience. - Demonstrated interest in biologic or chemical sciences and ability to work independently or in a team environment. - Strong organizational skills and ability to follow directions accurately. - Professional communication skills and familiarity with electronic health record and lab information systems. - Knowledge of medical terminology and exposure to clinical medicine or pathology environments. - Ability to multitask, pay attention to detail, troubleshoot, and problem-solve. - Must be able to learn and use multiple computer systems and work effectively in stressful situations. Compensation and Benefits - Hourly wage: $21.73 - $31.13. - Eligible for comprehensive benefits package. Schedule and Location - Full-time position. - 80 hours per pay period. - Shift: 11 am - 7:30 pm. - Rotating weekends and holidays, with 10-hour shifts. - No international assignment required. - Site location varies, including Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, Jacksonville, Florida, Rochester, Minnesota, and other Mayo Clinic Health System campuses.
