  • Responsibilities

    Job Summary

    A medical biller for Johnson Memorial Health Services is responsible to ensure timely and accurate submission of insurance claims, facilitate effective follow up on accounts receivable, and assist patients with billing questions. This position is also responsible for accurately entering hospital, clinic, care center, home health, and/or assisted living charges. Candidates must be detail oriented with good communication, organization, and time-management skills.

    Responsibilities

    • Various data entry
    • Submit electronic claims to insurance
    • Work assigned accounts receivable accounts
    • Filing appeals with insurance companies as necessary
    • Following up on credit balance accounts as they are assigned
    • Help other billers as needed
    • Accepting and entering cash receipts
    • Assist family members and patients with billing questions
    • Help sort mail when necessary
    • Complete required annual Health Care Academy lessons
    • Following the Standards of Behavior at all times
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Gather necessary information that may be requested by manager
    • May assume other responsibilities as assigned by manager

    Core Competencies

    Education/Experience/Licensure

    • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
    • Prior billing experience is preferred
    • Ability to work and communicate effectively with the public, patients, and co-workers
    • Good telephone skills
    • Organized and able to prioritize work
    • Knowledge in Word and Excel

    Working Environment - Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

    • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.
    • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
    • Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
    • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
