JMT's Asheville Construction Management Team is seeking a Utility Transportation Technician III to apply standard inspection procedures on an ongoing fiber optic cable installation contract along the US-74 corridor in the State of North Carolina, during and after construction for quality, safety, and conformance to plans and specifications. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Position summary: Full-time, long-term, permanent position. Applies standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on an overhead and underground fiber optic cable installation project to verify conformance to plans and specifications
• Perform routine material testing
• Measure and track quantities of pay items
• Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Active driver’s license
• 2+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects or utility inspection, installation, or location
• 5+ years of utility construction experience on transportation projects preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
