    JMT is seeking a Design Engineer specializing in HVAC, Building Automation Systems, and Plumbing/Fire Protection to be a part of our growing Facilities Engineering practice in the Newark, DE office. The Design Engineer will have the opportunity work with a diverse and experienced team of engineers and designers to resolve a variety of complex project requirements with the benefit of an ISO 9001 quality control process. The ideal candidate is an individual with the motivation and desire to excel within the consulting engineering field, finding ways to creatively address unique project requirements and applications. The Design Engineer will be directly involved from the initial conceptual mechanical design to completion for large and small facilities type projects across a wide range of industries including aviation, transportation, public works, water/wastewater, transit, and energy industries.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Work with a team of driven designers and engineers to meet project and client needs and goals
    • Resolve a variety of complex issues, (i.e., challenging design requirements, requirements for unconventional materials, difficult coordination requirements, etc.) and serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design team disciplines
    • Perform engineering calculations, review project contract documents, energy simulation, ventilation and heat load calculations, code reviews, field survey activities, construction administration and commissioning
    • Develop engineering plans and drawings to define the design requirements for construction
    • Coordinate projects with Local, City, State, and County codes and officials

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar field from an ABET accredited program is required
    • EIT preferred and/or pursuits to obtain professional engineering licensure
    • 0-5 years of experience related to a combination of building HVAC, building mechanical, plumbing, commissioning, central plant design, facilities construction, and other associated industries
    • Previous related working experience is a plus, which may include work done concurrent to completion of engineering degree program including engineering and/or construction experience
    • Commissioning certification and experience is a plus
    • LEED accreditation is a plus

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed within a general office environment 85% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

    Grant Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
