    JMT is seeking a Full Time Qualified Elevator Inspector who will provide complete inspection services of installed elevators and escalators including new elevator cab interiors, machines, controllers, safeties, car frames, doors and door operators, cabs and cables, and fire alarm interface either tied into the existing building system or standalone panel to be housed in the elevator machine rooms.

     

    Most of the work will be at LaGuardia Airport or J.F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, NY.

    Required Skills

    • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
    • Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
    • A working knowledge of mechanical, and electrical work in buildings, including experience in proper installation methods of the construction of elevators and escalators
    • Ability to inspect materials, workmanship, construction and installation of various systems, experience in the inspection of construction materials, workmanship involved in the installation of elevator systems
    • Ability to work independently and make decisions

    Required Experience

    • MUST HAVE A QUALIFIED ELEVATOR INSPECTION CERTIFICATION or be able to obtain the certification with 60 days
    • Experience in preparing written reports, correspondence, and maintaining records
    • Knowledge of safety practices in the construction industry, including a background of familiarity with OSHA safety requirements on construction projects
    • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as the New York City Building Code
    • Candidates must have current, active inspection experience
    • Due to the location of the work a resident of Brooklyn, Queens, or Nassau County is preferred.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Successful candidates will be embedded with the clients Engineering Department staff either in an office area or trailer. Field work will comprise approximately 25% of the work with the balance spent in drawing review, report reviews, attending meetings, report writing and correspondence. All field work will be on site and in some cases structures under construction. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed.
