POSITION SUMMARY: Applies standard inspection procedures on ongoing activities during and after construction for quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, contract documents and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
• Performs routine tests on soils and materials
• Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
• Gathers and maintains record documents
• Makes field notes and computations

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Active driver’s license
• 6+ years of experience in horizontal construction

The following certifications are required for this position:

• VDOT Soil and Aggregate Field Compaction
• VDOT Asphalt Field I
• VDOT Asphalt Field II
• ACI Field technician I
• DEQ certification for Erosion and Sediment Control (Inspector, provisional is acceptable)
• DEQ certification for Stormwater Management (Inspector, provisional is acceptable)
• Nuclear Gauge Safety Training
• Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control
• 10 Hour OSHA Safety Training preferred

The following certifications need to be obtained within one year:

• VDOT Pavement Marking

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

• Client requested certifications
• Construction inspection experience
• 1-2 years of roadway/bridge construction experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in the field during the day and night. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
