  • Responsibilities

     

    Reporting to the Rehabilitation Medicine Center Manager, the Medical Assistant organizes and provides clerical and clinical support to physicians and other healthcare personnel in the clinical environment. The Medical Assistant works in a challenging environment which undergoes constant changes and must exercise judgment and possess a combination of skills to deal with the day-to-day issues. The Medical Assistant will be expected to demonstrate a responsive and professional attitude to ensure the patient’s needs are provided for in an efficient and timely manner and maintain a calm and organized approach when working under pressure.

    EDUCATION:

     

    High School graduate or GED certificate required.

    Medical Assistant Certification or equivalent is required.

    CPR Certification is preferred.

     

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

     

    At least one year of medical office experience is preferred.

    Computer and word processing experience necessary.

    Knowledge of basic medical office procedures required.

    Possess a working knowledge of various forms such as Insurance, Disability, and Workmen’s Compensation preferred.

    This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and careful attention to detail.

    Medical office terminology and medication knowledge helpful.

    Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.

    Communicates effectively by competent use of e-mail, telephone, fax and letters according to office procedure. Speaks clearly and concisely.

    Able to operate small business equipment such as a telephone system, computer, copier-fax machine, and calculator.

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

    Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

    Ability to learn new procedures and information within a reasonable period of time.

    Possess well developed assessment skills, independent decision making abilities and organizational skills.

    Independent judgments and initiative is required in identifying problems and seeking and implementing solutions.

    Occasionally provides new employee orientation to routine procedures/policies.

    The employee must have the ability to work flexible hours, including a change in schedule and overtime hours to meet the needs of the office as determined by the Rehabilitation Medicine Center Manager.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Light work: duties require exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, and pull objects.

    Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.

    Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.

     

    ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS:

     

    Occasional exposure to blood and body substances.
