The School Bus Dispatcher performs a variety of duties, including typing, filing, answering phones, receiving and communicating information and performing other technical and administrative functions in an active office setting. The primary goal of the dispatcher is to receive information from a variety of sources, and to provide that information to drivers in a timely and efficient manner.
Essential Functions
Dispatch all school bus and transit routes making driver substitutions as needed. Accurately record substitute drivers for payroll and bonus purposes. Assure that substitute drivers are fully instructed on routes, to include maps and all necessary route information.
Dispatch all school bus charter trips. Be sure each trip is dispatched and assigned proper buses and drivers. • Assist in supervising the cleaners and the cleanliness of the buses.
Keep a good relationship with the shop staff and the status of vehicles.
Assist the sales staff in the proactive booking of all school bus charters.
Treat all drivers fairly. Know that the driver and the bus is the image the customer has of Johnson School Bus.
Learn and utilize the easy bus computer software system.
Work closely with the Safety Director to acquire and retain safe reliable drivers. Will assist the Safety Director in the investigation of unsafe situations and accidents.
Acquire and maintain a good relationship with the public and the schools. Remain polite on the phone and ask for assistance in difficult matters. Make no statements that will directly or indirectly affect Johnson School Bus. policies.
Weekend duty may be required at certain times of the year.
Assist with the preparation of timely articles for the newsletter. • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Work with HR to make sure all payroll functions are done accurately and timely.

Education And / Or Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience in good public relations
Experience with a Microsoft Windows operating system
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software products
Excellent telephone and two way radio communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to read and interpret documents
Ability to speak effectively with management as well as internal and external customers
Ability to quickly learn software programs
Ability to calculate figures and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Ability to perform drivers duties when needed as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching and walking
Ability to lift 1 - 25 pounds of office supplies and equipment
Maintain a strong attendance and punctuality record
Possess a functional knowledge of the demographics of the service area
Follow Johnson School Bus safety and operational rules and procedures
Obtain and maintain a CDL license with S & P endorsements Hours: Work hours are currently scheduled from 7:00AM to 4:00PM, with an hour break for lunch. These hours are somewhat flexible; however, a set schedule is necessary.
