WR is in need of a Mechanical Engineer, Basic to support the NIWC Program on the ECDU Project. 

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Documents and designs mechanical and electromechanical components and systems.
• Develops Electrical/Mechanical Drawing Packages (Level 3 Drawings, Block Diagrams, Bill of Materials (BOM), Manufacturing, Assembly, and Installation) for Navigation System utilizing Autodesk Inventor 3D.
• Independently analyzes specifications and performance requirements to ensure designs can be produced by existing manufacturing methods.
• Coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
• Participates in the research and analysis of customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
• Determines feasibility of designing new components or modifying existing components considering costs, available space, time limitations, planning, and other technical and economic factors.
• Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems under the direction of a technical lead.
• Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect product engineering.
• Independently analyzes specifications and performance requirements to ensure designs can be produced by existing manufacturing methods.
• Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect product engineering.
• Prepares system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
• Contributes to the design of products and system to interface machines, hardware, and software under direction of a technical lead.
• Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment and products.
• Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype products and systems.
• Compiles and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment and products.
• Plans and performs Environmental Qualification Testing (shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, EMI) and analyzes results

Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:    

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Three (3)+ years of Engineering experience in design, test, and analysis experience in one of the following area(s):

• Shock and vibration
• Airborne and structure borne noise
• Heat transfer/dissipation
• Chassis
• Circuit Card
• Connector
• Harness Layout

Proficient with Autodesk Inventor 3D.

Detailed oriented and possess excellent follow up skills.

Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Dependable and able to meet and exceed delivery schedules.

Must be capable of working in a laboratory and shipboard environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This job operates in a showroom and office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including continuously walking, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, grasping/griping; and frequently lifting and carrying up to 35 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
