Junior Commercial Business Development Officer - Credit Union

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Lending Officer, the Junior Commercial Business Development Officer will support growth and expansion of SCCCU’s Commercial and Business Lending program, through proactive business development, relationship management, commercial underwriting and lending support activities. This person is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, cultivating referral networks, performing preliminary and formal credit analysis, underwriting commercial loan requests and promoting business deposit and lending solutions to existing and prospective members. This person will serve as a relationship ambassador for SCCCU, by engaging with local businesses, community organizations and internal business partners, to deliver exceptional service and support sustainable loan and membership growth. In addition, this person will partner with SCCCU’s members throughout the origination lifecycle, from business development and financial analysis, through underwriting, approval and closing, while ensuring compliance with SCCCU’s policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Duties / Responsibilities:
**_Business Development & Sales _**Develop and execute an annual business development plan aligned with commercial lending, deposit growth and strategic business objectives;
Prospect and develop relationships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, commercial real estate professionals, brokers, chambers of commerce, centers of influence and community partners;
Generate new commercial loan opportunities and business deposit relationships through proactive outreach and networking;
Conduct outbound calls, networking activities, in-person business visits and relationship meetings, to identify member needs and expand commercial opportunities;
Represent SCCCU at community, business and networking events, to increase visibility and strengthen market presence;
Build and maintain referral partnerships internally with branches and departments and externally with business and community partners;
Promote and cross-sell SCCCU’s products and services, including commercial lending, deposits, treasury services and digital banking solutions.
**_Commercial Lending Support & Underwriting _**Perform commercial credit analysis and underwriting including review of business and personal financial statements, tax returns, debt service coverage, global cash flow, liquidity, leverage, collateral and repayment capacity;
Interview applicants and collect, analyze and interpret financial and related information to determine preliminary and formal creditworthiness and loan viability;
Structure commercial lending opportunities within established SCCCU’s policies, underwriting standards, lending authority and regulatory requirements;
Prepare deal summaries, underwriting packages, credit memorandums and recommendations for approval consideration;
Collaborate with internal underwriting, lending operations, legal and closing teams, to support movement of opportunities through approval, documentation, and funding;
Coordinate member communication and ensure exceptional service throughout the lending process.
Relationship Management
Maintain ongoing contact with business members to identify opportunities for relationship expansion and retention;
Support growth and development of existing commercial relationships through proactive engagement and periodic review;
Monitor pipeline activity and maintain consistent follow-up cadence to ensure opportunities progress efficiently;
Partner with branch and contact center teams to generate and develop business referrals;
Conduct relationships in a manner that enhances SCCCU’s sustainability, overall marketing presence and community reputation.
General Responsibilities
Maintain current knowledge of lending regulations, industry trends, market conditions and commercial lending best practices;
Participate in job-related training, meetings, seminars, conferences and continuing education opportunities;
Attend and complete all required compliance training and education;
Perform duties in compliance with SCCCU’s policies, procedures, all applicable laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), OFAC requirements and other applicable regulatory requirements;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
At least 2 – 4 years of experience in commercial lending, commercial credit analysis, underwriting, business banking, or related financial services;
High School Diploma or GED; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline, preferred;
Prior experience performing commercial underwriting and preparing credit presentations required;
Experience interpreting business and personal tax returns, financial statements, cash-flow analysis and global debt analysis;
Working knowledge of commercial loan structures including, commercial real estate, business term loans, lines of credit and deposit relationships;
Strong analytical, financial, business development and relationship management skills;
Experience with structuring commercial loans, including commercial real estate loans, term loans and lines of credit;
Familiarity with loan documentation, as it pertains to each loan type.
Proficiency with the MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat;
Proficiency with all standard office equipment and phones;
Ability to work effectively alone and within a team environment, in a fast-paced, diverse environment and perform efficiently under pressure;
Exemplary time management, organizational, attention to detail, multi-tasking, problem-solving, research, analytical, customer service and follow-through skills;
Exemplary oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
Bilingual Spanish / English, a plus;
Must be able to be fully bondable;
Holder of a valid CA driver’s license, with a clean and insurable driving record.
Working Hours:
8:30AM – 5:30PM Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend hours for networking and community events.
Compensation:
$85,530 - $128,295.47 base salary, DOE, for this this full-time exempt position; Grade 12.

Location:
Santa Cruz, CA - onsite role, but may be required to work and operate the mobile branch.
