JUST US 4 YOUTH - CREDIBLE MESSENGER
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
Credible Messengers (CMs) provide community outreach and one-on-one support to high-promise individuals and their families using a trauma-informed and strength-based approach. As a key part of JU4Y’s Restorative Justice + Care Program team, the CMs work closely with other program staff, often in small teams.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Represent the organization on community, county, and regional/national levels, usually serving within multiple collaboratives or committees that have been assigned to them.
Responsible for community and neighborhood outreach, as JU4Y has identified eight (8) neighborhoods in which we are amplifying services.
Build ongoing relationships of trust with at-promise youth and the community, so that the CMs will be available to deliver services as participants are ready to receive them; and
Work with at-promise youth through transformative mentoring programs, assisting to lead group discussions that explore a range of issues while addressing participants’ thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors. They aid youth in education, social-emotional development, character building, leadership development, and vocational support.
DUTIES: INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:
Reduce crime in assigned communities by building trust and relationships;
Participate in creating risk reduction plans;
Bring awareness to the community about youth issues, including efforts to reduce violence;
Conduct outreach activities with the community to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups;
Provide intervention to prevent youth from engaging in unhealthy activities;
Link individuals to services and opportunities in the community;
Convey any recommendations or challenges to staff;
Participate in team meetings;
Maintain up-to-date progress notes and data entry;
Perform other duties as required.
CMs must be able to interact at a comfortable, confident, and effective level with at-promise youth and their families. They must possess the ability to manage and work well with deadlines. And they must be detail- and team oriented with a willingness to take direction, be flexible, learn, and commit to ongoing personal growth and development.
Pomona residents are preferred.
Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) ability is a PLUS.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education:
● Driver's License, current (required) ● Automobile insurance (required)
WORK LOCATION:
Multiple locations; based in Pomona.
BENEFITS AVAILABLE:
Job Type: Full-time (40 hrs/wk)
Pay: $17.00 per hour
SCHEDULE:
● Typically Monday to Friday, typically 8:00am-4:30 pm (30-minute lunch break).
● JU4Y may at times request weekend, evening, and/or on-call availability.
