    Job Description

    The Juvenile Delinquency Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering educational instruction that addresses the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of youth who have been adjudicated delinquent or are at risk of delinquency. This role combines classroom teaching with mentorship and behavioral support, fostering an environment of accountability, personal growth, and rehabilitation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Plan, deliver, and assess standards-aligned lessons in core academic subjects and/or topics related to juvenile justice, life skills, and character development.

    • Create a safe and structured learning environment that supports positive behavior and engagement.

    • Collaborate with counselors, case managers, probation officers, and social workers to support students' educational and behavioral plans.

    • Develop individualized learning plans (IEPs or 504 Plans) as needed and adapt instruction for diverse learners, including those with learning disabilities or trauma histories.

    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, academic progress, and behavioral interventions.

    • Facilitate restorative practices and conflict resolution techniques within the classroom.

    • Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting resilience, accountability, and the value of education.

    • Monitor classroom safety and report incidents according to institutional policy.

    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to case reviews and transition planning.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

    • Valid state teaching certification (Special Education, Secondary Education, or Alternative Education license often preferred).

    • Experience working with at-risk youth, particularly those involved in the juvenile justice system.

    • Strong classroom management, trauma-informed teaching, and culturally responsive pedagogy.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Training in behavioral intervention strategies (PBIS, CPI, etc.).

    • Familiarity with restorative justice, youth development principles, and social-emotional learning (SEL).

    • Ability to handle high-stress environments with empathy, patience, and professionalism.

    Salary Range:

    $42,000 – $65,000 annually, depending on experience, credentials, and work setting.
