    The K9 Shift Lead is responsible for leading the K9 Handler team during their shift while ensuring the safety, care, and well-being of all dogs. This role includes supervising playgroups, preparing and serving meals, administering medications, maintaining cleanliness, assisting with dog assessments, and monitoring all rooms. The Shift Lead helps the team stay organized and ensures all procedures are followed correctly.

    Key Responsibilities Dog Care, Feeding & Medications

    Prepare dog meals according to owner instructions

    Feed dogs on schedule and monitor eating habits

    Administer medications accurately and on time (as instructed)

    Double-check food labels, portions, and medication instructions

    Report any concerns with appetite, health, or behavior to management

    Dog Safety & Monitoring

    Supervise dogs during daycare, boarding, and playgroups

    Monitor dog behavior and body language closely

    Help staff with dog assessments and introductions

    Step in calmly and quickly to prevent or manage issues

    Ensure dogs are placed in appropriate rooms based on size, temperament, and energy level

    Monitor all rooms regularly to ensure safety and comfort

    Team Leadership & Support

    Lead and support K9 Handlers throughout the shift

    Help staff with handling, feeding, cleaning, and room coverage

    Assign tasks and manage break coverage

    Train and guide staff on proper procedures and safety rules

    Correct issues respectfully and escalate concerns when needed

    Cleanliness & Facility Standards

    Ensure kennels, play areas, feeding stations, and common spaces are clean and sanitized

    Hold the team accountable to cleanliness and safety standards

    Assist with cleaning tasks as needed

    Ensure proper use of cleaning products and equipment

    Operations & Communication

    Communicate clearly with front desk and management

    Ensure all feeding, medication, and care instructions are followed correctly

    Complete shift notes, feeding logs, medication logs, and incident reports

    Assist with client questions when needed

    Qualifications & Skills

    Strong experience handling dogs of all sizes and temperaments

    Experience with feeding routines and administering medications

    Leadership or supervisory experience preferred

    Excellent observation and attention to detail

    Calm, confident, and professional under pressure

    Reliable, punctual, and responsible

    Strong communication and teamwork skills

    Physical Requirements

    Able to stand and walk for long periods

    Able to lift up to 50 lbs

    Comfortable working indoors and outdoors

    Comfortable in a fast-paced, physical environment

    Schedule
