KDC Construction is seeking a superior Regional Safety Manager for its Northern California region. The company serves well-known customers having multiple store locations and providing great diversity of work. This position will provide long term stability for the right individual.
Regional Safety Managers with qualified experience assembling commercial construction schedules for all project scopes in the following industry market categories will be considered:
- Big box retail
- Quick service restaurants
- Full service restaurants
- Fuel station/convenience store
- Site Development
- Fast paced T.I. and Restoration
The Regional Safety Manager will perform a full range of construction safety inspection assignments. The Regional Safety Manager will conduct high level, on-site safety & SWPPP inspections of construction projects, warehouse, fabrication shop and the work performed by the service maintenance department to ensure compliance with established state and company occupational safety standards. The position will complete assignments through a complex safety audit application system consisting of inspection techniques and knowledge of the California, Federal Occupational Safety and Health Act and Company Construction and KDC’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Manual (HSE).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Administers, directs and manages safety program and regional incident prevention efforts to ensure Company is enforcing all compliance including Job Site Rules, Code of Safe Practices and health safety and environment management (HSE).
- Issues corrective actions, adjusts work procedures and ensure compliance is met.
- Supports and promotes Company’s strong safety culture, both internally and externally.
- Assists with identifying best practices and leading continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
- Provides technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees and management on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
- Conducts safety training including new hire safety orientation, field safety training for Company and subcontractors and mandatory training including annual Fall Prevention Training, Forklift & Aerial Lift Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens, Global Harmonization System, Respiratory Protection and Excavation Trenching.
- Conducts regular walk thru inspections of construction areas in designated region.
- Performs safety audits and inspects facilities including machinery, tools, housekeeping, signage, job site tailgate logs, and safety equipment to ensure safety regulation and company compliance.
- Identifies, documents and recommends resolutions of hazardous/potential hazardous conditions and ensures corrections are made.
- Reviews and approves all crane lift plans, all scaffolds being erected and all excavation trenching plans with subcontractor permits in designated region.
- Inspects the safety components of roofing and framing activity, including working from a scissor or aerial lift.
- Assists with investigating near miss incidents, industrial accidents and work related injuries to Company and subcontractor workers to determine root cause and corrective action.
- Assists with reporting and submitting inspection reports including compiling data, photographing, and preparing all pertinent forms and reports associated with accident per program procedures and federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintains all safety related documentation and reports including, training records, accident documentation and safety inspection reports.
- Coordinates and participates in regulatory agency inspections.
- Assists with loss prevention activities including developing loss prevention policies and procedures and consulting with insurance representative’s loss control services.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- 5+ years’ experience as a safety professional in a construction environment.
- Current training and/or certification in the following areas: OSHA Construction 30-Hour, SWPPP training, AQMD training and Silica Management Training.
- Demonstrates competency in the following areas: first aid and CPR, trenching and excavation, scaffolding safety, construction site inspections and familiarity with Forklift Safety.
- Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret, predict, problem solve, and apply common sense.
- Ability to understand how to predict and avoid dangerous situations.
- Proficient with computers and familiar with Microsoft Software Suite.
- Familiar with handheld safety inspection software.
- Able to identify a need, remove the barriers, and has the know how to make things happen.
- Values diversity of ideas, opinions, and people. Has good common sense and applied logic.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess or be able to obtain appropriate state driver license prior to employment, along with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
