    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    The student support coordinator (SST Coordinator) will be primarily based at KIPP DC’s Virtual Learning Program (VLP). This position will be responsible for leading special education compliance at the VLP, ensuring that documentation is accurate, managing matters related to 504, and adhering to federal and state requirements for the entire program. The SST Coordinator leads the school team in 504 and Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings and serves as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for KIPP DC. This position will also assist in sustaining policies and systems that ensure KIPP DC’s overall compliance with student support services regulations, working closely with our student support services staff, and school leaders. The student support coordinator is an exempt role and will report to the Senior Director of Compliance.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    DRIVE COMPLIANCE:

    • Ensure student support services staff abide by IDEA and local regulations
    • Oversee compliance of student support services files 
    • Own scheduling and holding IEP, SEP, Eligibility, and 504 meetings in a timely manner
    • Maintain the special education database system (SEDS)
    • Support with developing and writing high quality IEPs and 504 plans
    • Write 504s for students based on the data and team input.
    • Provide professional development and support to case managers  to gather and analyze data (assessments, grades, observations, teacher comments, etc.) 
    • Work closely with school psychologists and other related service providers to ensure assessments are completed in a timely manner
    • Coordinate the implementation of accommodations on state and local testing in collaboration with school teams
    • Collaborate with the case manager and director on due process actions
    • Participate and support KIPP DC attorneys and attorneys representing students with disabilities
    • Coordinate the dissemination and collection of Medicaid related documents to parents and other stakeholders

    ENSURE ACADEMIC PROGRESS:

    • Ensure IEPs are compliant with federal and district regulations, goals are standards based and relevant for the individual student, and present levels of performance are appropriate and current.
    • Facilitate data-based discussions to help the MDT design IEPs to best support student growth
    • Support school leadership with scheduling students with IEPs

    PERFORM OTHER RELATED DUTIES, AS ASSIGNED:

    • Serve as the face of the student support team at your campus to all parents, school leaders, staff, and community members
    • Distribute weekly memos to school teams and facilitate department meetings, when needed
    • Facilitate small group and whole staff professional development on an as needed basis
    • Attend professional development workshops, conferences, and meetings to stay abreast of current topics in student support services
    • Manage small and large scale projects as assigned by the Student Support Director of Compliance 
    • Serve as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP DC's staff, including activities like attendance to teacher/staff meetings, accompanying students on field lessons, assisting with student recruitment and enrichment activities, and working with other staff members to ensure fulfillment of KIPP DC's mission.
    • Conduct school-based special education related meetings collaboratively with special education teachers and school principal

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree (required)
    • 2 years of relevant special education experience and a master’s in related field OR at least 3 years of special education case management experience (required) 
    • Possess an understanding of State and Federal Special Education Law and local policies.
    • Possess an understanding of section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.  
    • Experience with writing high quality IEPs and/or 504 accommodation plan
    • Experience leading complex special education meetings (highly preferred)
    • Experience teaching in an urban school (preferred)
    • Certified in Special Education (recommended)
    • Excellent oral and written communicator (required)
    • Analytic, problem solving mindset (required)
    • Commitment to working with limited access to quality educational options (required)

    KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

    • THE ANTICIPATED STARTING SALARY FOR THIS POSITION IS $59,186-$70,459. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.  
    • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
    • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
    • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
